bush's Christian Conservative base: a minor annoyance or real danger?
should we be afraid of these people, or should we simply laugh at them as they pass on into oblivion?

1. They have affected policy already.
They are a danger.

The backlash can't come soon enough.

5. they've ALWAYS been a thorn in America's side
prohibition, manifest destiny, enforced christianity on the natives and slaves, blue laws prohibiting liquor sales on sunday, anti marijuana laws, enforced school prayer, creationism, homophobia, intolerence, paranoia and infiltration of the government. these are just a few examples of how they concretely affect our daily lives.

and they want to control EVERYTHING

2. I've often thought about this, and I've reached the opinion that
Whilst we shouldn't SHOW them that we might be afraid of them, we must keep our wits about us and remain diligent.

These people are batshit crazy, and I've got not a single doubt in my mind that they would get violent with anti-Junior people.

Personally I do laugh at a lot of their theories, because their theories are so insane, illogical and plain way out...but I think we'd be foolish to just laugh them off as a group.

17. They do not use reason in their thinking. Like the terrorists.
Each group that are sure they are right and will do any thing to make every one do as they say is some one to really think about and have some fear of. Or that is how I think. Usually they have little power and that they have a President using them is really bad. He of course will be treated just the same if he does not go down the line with them. Since I do not think Bush will take down him self I guess we are safe. Also you have to think of the real money people. They will only let things go so far and never when the may not make money. Or it is how I think. I never claim to be right about any thing.

3. Be very afraid....
I live in the South...there really are some who would change everything. Policy, "The Handmaiden's Tale" may describe it. I'm very alone in my view's...it's frightening.:scared:

20. I know what you mean.
I live in Atlanta, an island of enlightenment in a sea of insanity. I am honestly afraid to go into Cobb County which is just north of the city. They are so extreme up there I have a feeling if they knew I was an atheist they would ready the old stake and have a bonfire. Theocrats are dangerous to non-conforming people no matter what the underlying religion. I do so long for a purely secular state in which those who are besotted with g-d would just be quiet about it.

7. These people are a real danger
They helped get the MF elected and re-elected, they are creating nationwide legal policy change, they cause furors in every city and town that get local events changed or even cancelled and policies rewritten, they are pushing all sorts of nonsense such as this "Intelligent Design" and "Abstinence Only" in place of truth in the nation's schools. They are a menace to society.

14. Bush Inc. ISN'T incompetent, they know EXACTLY what they're doing
Junior is just a piece on the board, one must look at the board as a whole, look at the other larger pieces which as a collective add up to Bush Inc.

Bush Inc. are the New Hitler, and they're NOT incompetent, they've had a plan which was formed at least 10 years ago. The Iraq War, not incompetent but PLANNED, torturing people at Gitmo and Abu Ghraib, not incompetent but PLANNED, bankrupting the treasury, not incompetent but PLANNED, doing their best to kill off the poor by slashing social programs, not incompetent but PLANNED, the fear, the terror, the all war ALL the time, the deception, the smoke and mirrors, the propaganda, the racism, the bigotry, the demonization of all opposition, the misery, the suffering, the death, the Nationalism...the End Game...NONE of it is incompetent...ALL of it was PLANNED. And ALL of it has been DESIGNED to DESTROY...so therefore their plans are working.

15. Fundamentalists / Extremists are a danger no matter which "religion"...
or belief they follow, it is the nature of the beast.

The psuedo-christian fundie types have long been a threat from current times back to a couple hundred years "AD" when they went from being fed to the lions to being lions. IME the best way to fight them is if the REAL majority stands up and fights back hard using the TRUTH and their own Bibles words as a mirror to show the beasts as they really are ("fighting fire with fire"). They need to be shown as they have become, NOT the sweet angels of love and light they would have many mislead to believe but more so the followers of *the* Biblical Angel of Light, "Lucifer" (apologies... I know there are Bible verses to back this up but I'm physically not up to the search today).

Normal rational logic doesn't usually work well with people brainwashed by the extreme right. The ONLY tool that IME semi-works against people who are fundies is to know the book, the Bible, they use as a hammer better then they do and USE it, quote it back at them, using it as a weapon, the sword of truth and justice.

18. Spot On right!
But IMO the onlypeople who cn extract them from the illogical conclusion are other Christian.

The "what would Jesus do" works well. But there is are better argumet from Scripture and Christian theology that I personally do not believe people who are not immersed in that culture would get.

You have to get them to test their motivations on purely spiritual grounds. The argiment tht alwsya works well for me is discussing the histrioincs of the right wing and its neative impact on evangelism.

The line "Its not about Jesus its about the need to feel culturally important when Jesus calls us to be meek" is a good conversation starter.

19. The danger is in the leadership.
The mass only follow what the leaders profess. It is almost like a giant cult where what the head of the cult says, everyone follows.

I am a Christian but not part of the Christian cult that is driving this country into the ground.
