Am I an Enemy Combatant?
Because I challenge everything that our administration says?

I wrote scathing columns regarding the Iraq War and the Bush Economic policy.

Because in print I mentioned Barrick Gold. Called Operation Iraqi Freedom it's proper name.....Operation Iraqi Oil Wells.

Because I know all about the Project for A New American Century.

When I debate all my uninformed friends, family, and relatives on the phone or through e-mail is somebody out there reading and listening? Are they taking notes on my ideas, concepts and arguments? Waiting for the proper moment to denounce me for thinking critically and creatively. To say that I am helping the terrorists.

Am I another Jose Padilla?

Locked in a cell. Smothered. Confined. Not allowed to breathe or see the light of day. To talk to family, loved ones. To make a living. To have a life. Without my Constitutional legal rights.

Not knowing if I will ever do these things again.

Another Enemy Combatant.

Locked away for plotting and planting the dirty bomb of dissent.

Will you be an Enemy Combatant too?

11. The idea is that there is no constitutional
definition for an "enemy combatant." An enemy combatant-stripped of all rights and freedoms- could and up being somebody who simply doesn't agree with the powers that be. For example, if I started a protest against another round of tax cuts for rich people could that piss off somebody deluded enough with power that they may devise an awful way to abuse it? Sure they could. Already the Patriot Act has been used-or abused- for other reasons besides terror, which is supposed to be it's only use. We should not restrict civil liberties under the guise of protection. In that matter, we would then have nothing worth protecting and fighting for. That we can dissent without fear of political imprisonment is one of the reasons that makes our country great. By compromising that right we are killing what best explains our unique democratic values.

This other horseshit smells like Germany circa 1935.

3. Not a dumb question...
Fact is, the Bush/PNAC cabal that is ruling our nation right now, are fascists through and through. If they had their way, you, and a lot of others, including myself, would no doubt be considered, "enemy combatants" of some sorts. It's not a very big stretch, looking at the Patriot Act, listening to Asscroft, and the kind of rhetoric ("You're either with us, or against us") the Repugs spout off with, to see people being marched to concentration camps. It's happened before, and could happen again....

All I can say is, wear it proudly!

4. The patriot act says so
SEC. 802. DEFINITION OF DOMESTIC TERRORISM.

(a) DOMESTIC TERRORISM DEFINED- Section 2331 of title 18, United States Code, is amended--

(1) in paragraph (1)(B)(iii), by striking `by assassination or kidnapping' and inserting `by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping';

(2) in paragraph (3), by striking `and';

(3) in paragraph (4), by striking the period at the end and inserting `; and'; and

(4) by adding at the end the following:

`(5) the term `domestic terrorism' means activities that--

`(A) involve acts dangerous to human life that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any State;

(This could include all jaywalkers SP)

`(B) appear to be intended--

`(i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population;

(and this could be the poster of this thread SP)

`(ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or

(same here)

9. Shrubbie and Osama are one and the same.
Osama worked for the CIA in fighting the Soviets in the 80s. I doubt he renounced his position, especially since 9/11 was Bush's wet dream.

13. Terrorism is any opposition or resistance to bush or sharon regime

both regimes tried to get it in writing at the UN but were miraculously unsuccessful.

However, policy, decrees, and actions of both regimes have written the definition in history, and in blood.

Many people were surprised to learn that they were terrorists.

7. That fact that you are even asking questions
means you are opposed to the regime, ergo, you hate Murka, and by extension are an enemy combatant. But if you honor previous enemy combatants by flaunting a confederate flag, then you would be a right-thinking Murkan.

10. Well...
Just the very fact that this person is not locked up for their dissenting views goes to show how ridiculous the paranoia is about what the administration is doing to people who disagree with them. Thousands, maybe millions, of people around the country have expressed displeasure with the policies of the Bush administration, yet they all continue to enjoy the very freedoms that they are so afraid they will have taken away from them. You have not been "locked up", "smothered", or "confined." You have not been taken away from your family, your work, or your life. And that is why everyone who is so outraged because they believe they can't speak out against the administration(even though they are doing so while they say that) looks foolish. Why all the worry and the fear? It's just an irrational and unsupported way of spreading more fear.

12. But there is still no way to prevent that from happening
Edited on Mon Oct-13-03 06:27 PM by Wetzelbill
No constitutional safety net or anything. It's vague and it has the potential for great breaches. Why worry? Because loopholes have a way of getting taken advantage of and it will happen sooner or later. By the vague implications in the wording I am an enemy combatant. That's bad news for freedom and integrity. So please, enough with the trite and shallow rationale.

16. So the fact that the law hasn't had widespread application yet
Is proof that it will never be used, huh? Hmmmm. Interesting rationale, that. Can't say that I subscribe to it, but everyone's entitled to their own viewpoint. Although I'll refrain from calling names.
