Bill Maher, Pissing Off The Freepers.
Edited on Sun Nov-06-05 03:31 AM by K8-EEE
Haven't watched the show yet but it sure did fire up the freepers, so he must have done something right. I love how they never really rebut people, they just call them names. Here they will educate you on Bill's big nose and other pertinent matters.

Oh wait! It's an op-ed that got them so pissed off, not Real Time. Bet they wouldn't like that either though!

1. Here's a brilliant post:
"Bill Maher is a complete idiot. I refuse to even comment on this thread. I just refuse...."

2. umm
"Stating that FReepers would advocate violence is slanderous and irresponsible."

do they not read their own material? Oh wait... I should have stopped at "read."

I barely go there and have seen violence against people hinted at or openly called for multiple times.

15. They are busy little fascists
Post, clean white robes, feed the gimp in the basement, compose a monosyllabic question on Clenis' role in manipulating pre-war intellegence in time for Washington Journal on CSPAN.

So many things to do, you can't expect them to actually read other Freepers posts can you?

I had to turn the fucking thing off. The boss of a mysteriously dead intern couldn't shut his fascist mouth and I became embarrassed because of, yes again, another wingnut American was rude to a foreign dignitary. Click off.

When did Maher get a chance to talk?

18. I think Maher tries to play nice...
I think he feels that if the RWers don't get to go on their regular rants he won't be able to book them on the shows. I don't have a problem with his show only having Liberal/Left/Dems. I think he feels that if they don't bring that edge it won't be as entertaining.

11. Whats a little waterboarding between drunken
Frat boy pranksters? I swear someone needs to spit in his face during an interview. Maybe he can do "scarborough country" from a stress position?

He asked the panel if "waterboarding" was torture?

Apparently he thinks its kind of like knee boarding or boogie boarding.

 Bill needs to take his show on tape delay to cut out little fuckwads like this guy. Shouting down the former prime minister of Ireland like he was in a bar. Fucking scumbag. :banghead:

16. Torture's a dawdle!
Not sure about the others but Rumsfeld wouldn't crack under pressure, he'd disable his toruturers with:

GRIMACE PALM

Seriously though, I have it on good authority that Rumsfeld works standing up in his office. He's got a podium desk. Sort of a stress position?

Extreme resistance to torture is of the benefits of being undead.

29. "...Rumsfeld works standing up in his office. ..."
For anyone pedantic enough to say "Link, please", here:

ERIC LEWIS, Detainee Lawyer: One of the things he authorizes is shackling in stress positions for up to four hours a day.

NARRATOR: Rumsfeld works at a standing desk.

ERIC LEWIS: And Secretary Rumsfeld writes in his own hand, "I stand eight to 10 hours a day. Why only four?"

MARK DANNER, Author, Torture and Truth: When you read the documents, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld was involved very personally in approving procedures that went beyond the line of what is allowed in military law, and for that matter, in civilian law, when it comes to what can be done to prisoners

17. Perhaps we should try 'waterboarding' JS
and then asking his opinion as to whether it is torture or not. Preface it w/a simple question: do you feel all should be guaranteed the rights of the constitution? No?...'dunk'...only citizens...'dunk'...not 'terrorists'...'dunk'...how does one determine terrorists...'dunk'...glub, glub, glub...

you didn't stick with it because the Irish president quietly but firmly BLEW HIS ASS OUT OF THE STUDIO! It was just delicious! She had the facts and the world view and the gentle humor--a really classy lady who showed just what a looser Joe really is. He ended up sitting there grumbling to himself looking senile. It was a hoot!

"Use your inside voice!!" when Will Farrel was shouting inappropriately.

I'll have to fast forward to that part, I tivo'd it and came very close to deleting it when I turned it off :)

9. and another one
"Where is his outrage at the people how murder fetuses well after the point of viability and get paid for it? You know, it is just a job."

I think they think that all abortions are done at the last minute or something. I've heard them crow about how Bush ended late term abortions, not realizing how rare those are anyway.

"Few reported abortions occurred after 15 weeks of gestation; 4.3% were at 16--20 weeks, and 1.4% were at >21 weeks."
http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/ss5212a1.htm

of course, since they don't believe in science, maybe they think a zygote is a viable infant (currently 23 to 28 weeks from conception). Or maybe they just can't read - "In a move hailed by supporters of choice and freedom, U.S. District Judge Phyllis Hamilton declared the Bush Administration's so called "Partial Birth Abortion Ban" unconstitutional, June 1, 2004. " because it stated no clause making an exception for the health of the mother.

And they always claim that we rely on emotion instead of facts...

10. The Most Comical
I never go to this site but just what I saw from that link I don't think I plan on doing so. I didn't finish the page but these were the comments that I saw before the lunacy became too sad for me. Both of these posts are by the same person. I won't post his name because I don't want to give that person the honor of doing so.

What puzzles me is the Liberals thinking Clarence Thomas is only 3/5th a person comment..? What? I think the statement he's referring to is Bills comments about Alito.

"We owe a prayer of thanks to God for the stupidity of our enemies.

I hope this runs in lots of papers."

"And every liberal in America will defend this statement, swearing that it's absolutely true.

But then, these are the same people who think Clarence Thomas is only 3/5 of a person."

24. "3/5th of a person" explained, maybe...
Considering that Thomas is black, I suppose that remark refers to the 3/5th compromise the Founding Fathers made.

It was a dispute over how to count slaves for the purposes of taxes and state population. This would decide the number of people the state got in the House of Representatives, as well as electoral votes.

The North, with few slaves, wanted slaves to count for determining taxes owed, but not to count as population. The South, with more slaves, wanted the opposite. There was a deadlock at the Constitutional Convention, until a compromise was reached where the 3/5th of a state's slave population would count for purposes of both taxation and representation.

Now how this applies to only liberals, let alone modern day liberals, is probably just the demented ravings of a lunatic mind.

20. The Initial Freep Post Was Misleading
There was no op-ed piece, this was from Bill's latest Real Time end of show rant.

The Freeper who made the initial post stated that it was a written opinion piece, and then implied that there is some sort of liberal media coverup, and that's why anybody doing a Google or Yahoo search wouldn't find this article.

28. Bill's final "New Rule" is frequently printed in Friday's LA Times.
as a Commentary piece.

Can't find it this week (especially since I didn't watch Friday night so I don't know what to search for besides his name) but he's also published in other select papers around the country.

I'll keep looking. :)

34. Yea but in some ways it's energizing....
I live in a heavily Liberal area. Very rarely do I come across RWers and when I do they usually shy away from political issues out of fear from the majority. The only debates (never heated) I may get in are with liberals who vote Green Party. I think it helps me remember that there are people who think like that out there.

27. The outrage reminds me the time....
....Jon Stewart went on Crossfire and Tucker Carson asked him why he doesn't ask hard hitting questions on the Daily Show. LOL!

STEWART: But my point is this. If your idea of confronting me is that I don't ask hard-hitting enough news questions, we're in bad shape, fellows.

STEWART: If you want to compare your show to a comedy show, you're more than welcome to.

Do the people over on FreeRepublic not understand the very simple concept of comedy?

Case in point:

infoguy wrote:
We can only imagine the "outrage" in the media if [fill in your favorite conservative writer here] had printed anything even remotely like this.

If they want to compare a conservative writer to a comedian, I guess they are more than welcome to do so, but it just makes it apparent that they don't get it.
