Enough of the Schadenfreude! This is nowhere near over!
Yes, yes, I know it's great, all the bad karma in the world is crashing down on the clueless craniums of BushInc right now, and it is well deserved. That being said, let's not get carried away with the champagne and cigars. A major battle of an epic stuggle that has brought this country, indeed this planet, to the brink looks to be going in the good guys direction. However, despite the recent event that look as if they turn these turds out to the streets, we should remain vigilant and wary. Lest we forget, the corporate media is not our friend! All of this information they're using to cook Bush's ass with has been public domain since the beginning of this fiasco. They could have shot down Bush and the Iraq War whenever they wanted to. So, I ask you, why? Why now have they decided the truth is important? Why turn on Bush now? Unless that's what is needed. People are too awake right now, they're not buying what's being sold. So it's time for a new guy same as the old one in Corporate America. Let everyone think that everything evil and rechid that's been happening can rest solely at the feet of George W. Bush and all is well for our oligarchic overseers. Once that is achieved all they need is to axe Bush and replace him with another one of their pawns in the White House. Then all is solved, the people are pacified cause the naughty president is gone, they still have all their contracts in Iraq, and they still have a country completly under their spell. So take heed my friends, for though the sun sets on Bush II, it may be rising yet again for those in the shadows.

4. yes, but what's the media's payback?
Once again they let this war happen. All the information that they're now blaring 24/7 was fully available last year. They ignored everyone for nearly 5 years now (don't forget the cushy treatment they gave BushCo in his campaign and during the election) They've shown their true colors, not for one second do I think all this is coming out now because they've all of a sudden come around or because they decided to start listening to people, there's more to it.

2. Good point.
I was wondering this myself earlier today, though I came to the conclusion that the media is only turning around now because they smell blood in the water and controversy makes good television. It's all about the benjamins.

5. they had plenty of opportunity for controversy before
Remember AWOL? How about Harken? Or Enron? All of those were scandals that could have blown BushCo out of the water if the media had gone after the story. I don't buy it. Bush has served his purpose, now he's damaged goods, so it's time for the next figure-head. That's the story, film at 11.

3. You're absolutely right
We have to pound, and pound and puond away.

At our elected Democratic Senators and Representatives, not to mention the media.

The surface has been barely scratched, we have to pull back layers and layers before we'll ever get to the bottom of the crimes this administration has committed.

6. agreed.
I'm worred that the media will soon forget about this story. I can see the DU thread topics now.

"WE'RE FUCKED! WE'LL NEVER WIN! EVER!"

"ROVE WINS AGAIN!! LET"S ALL COMMIT HARA KIRI!"

"IT'S ALL OVER!! DEMS MIGHT AS WELL DISMANTLE THE PARTY!"

This is definitely not over. We need to keep the pressure on and continue to watch the media with a hawk's eye. This is no time to start getting cocky.

7. (Remember) Dean: No consolidated economic power has more opportunity...
It’s been a busy day, but it’s great to blog here on Larry Lessig’s blog.

I’ll be writing all week, but if there’s a day I can’t make it, Joe Trippi, my campaign manager, will fill in for me. Thank you Professor Lessig for inviting me.

The Internet might soon be the last place where open dialogue occurs. One of the most dangerous things that has happened in the past few years is the deregulation of media ownership rules that began in 1996. Michael Powell and the Bush FCC are continuing that assault today (see the June 2nd ruling).

The danger of relaxing media ownership rules became clear to me when I saw what happened with the Dixie Chicks. But there’s an even bigger danger in the future, on the Internet. The FCC recently ruled that cable and phone based broadband providers be classified as information rather than telecommunications services. This is the first step in a process that could allow Internet providers to arbitrarily limit the content that users can access. The phone and cable industries could have the power to discriminate against content that they don’t control or-- even worse-- simply don’t like.

The media conglomerates now dominate almost half of the markets around the country, meaning Americans get less independent and frequently less dependable news, views and information. James Madison and Thomas Jefferson spoke of the fear that economic power would one day try to seize political power. No consolidated economic power has more opportunity to do this than the consolidated power of media

From Governor Dean

Thanks for the many, many comments. We’ve just arrived back to Vermont after six days on the road. I appreciate all the feedback. People asked what can be done about media deregulation. I think we need to re-regulate the media that has clearly abused its authority by censoring information that should be made available to the American people. Someone asked about the Patriot Act-we should repeal those parts that violate our constitution.

In the second quarter, our campaign had over 73,000 donors. We have over 60,000 people on Meetup. Every one of them is making a difference. If everyone gets involved, we can change the political process in this country and prove there is a better way to change the country. That is what this campaign is about.

Thanks again, Howard Dean

8. I've said it before, and I'll say it again . . .
it's not just the corporate media . . . corporations control every aspect of our government, from writing legislation to determining tax policy to the actual voting process itself . . . through their BushCo minions, they're undoing virtually all of the social progress legislation enacted in this country over the past half century or longer, from environmental protection to worker safety to the requirement that employers pay overtime . . . until we're ready to take back our government from corporate control, nothing much else is going to matter a whole lot . . . because as long as they control the government, WE DON'T . . .
