OMG! Go Cindy! :yourock:

Protesters revved up to bash Bush

About 10,000 security personnel are ready for thousands of protesters who will march against President Bush and U.S. policies at the Americas Summit in Mar del Plata, Argentina.

BY MEI-LING HOPGOOD

MAR DEL PLATA, Argentina - President Bush's appearance at a summit here of leaders from Argentina to Canada got off to a tense start Thursday amid plans for protests by critics ranging from soccer superstar Diego Maradona to American antiwar activist Cindy Sheehan.

2. I wonder if she will get to meet with some of the other mothers ...
... whose children were "disappeared" by the military government, years ago. I bet they would have a lot to talk about.

12. I don't understand what the Problem would be meeting a
president of another Country. Chavez is willing to help america, offered During katrina, to help the poor of our country, more than Bush has done.

8. Bad Move, Cindy
I'm deeply sympathetic to her grief, but sometimes a grieving person isn't in the position to make the best political judgments.

Protesting in the US is one thing, but going into another country is another. It deeply hurts the US anti-war movement because older, brainwashed voters get very pissed!

I can already see O'Reilly cuing up Jane Fonda clips.

10. I don't think it's a good move for her either, IMO...
but she's made a few other decisions I didn't agree with either.

19. It's not the same as the Dixie Chicks, though...
The main argument against the DC's was that they travelled to the UK to badmouth Nero. With Cindy Sheehan, she started in earnest down in Crawford, TX; if she protests Nero in Argentina, pro-war folks will probably look at her and say "Oh, that's just Cindy up to her old shtick" and turn back to their coffee.

So, overall, I don't think it'll hurt Cindy any - unless she says something really ill-advised.

9. I hope she realizes she is in Argentina and subject to their law.
Yes, yes the protestors show Argentinians aren't all for Bush, but that doesn't mean they won't drop the hammer on a foreigner they see as a rabble-rouser.

11. Dumb, dumb, dumb.
Is she trying to marginalize herself or what? This is a very foolish move, politically. For an American to go overseas to protest against a US president is guaranteed to alienate many people who might otherwise be sympathetic to her cause.

25. A majority of the World is sympathetic to her cause!
Honestly, Ms. Sheehan is representing all Americans who do not support the imperialist policies of our country. I highly doubt she gives two figs if she "marginalizes" herself with those who do.

American politicians, corporate lackeys, ambassadors, esteemed government officials, "news"men, missionaries, military...go overseas daily to represent the real intent of this country and they have "marginalized" our nation, because of it! Those "voices" of America have created this situation in which the common people of the World absolutely despise what our Democracy stands for.

I applaud Cindy Sheehan for standing up for us, trying to show the World that not everyone here is comfortable being mighty, superpowerful pigs, devouring the earth and its people and resources! Her son's life was destroyed, just like the millions and millions of others suffering at the hands of American policy, and she has every right to protest that!

14. Right wing media will call her a commie, anti-American, friend of Chavez.
It gives them ammo to take the story to her and away from Bush** being hated across the world.

17. Definition of cowardice: public opinion superceding our principles
We are in the problem we are in today because of leaders cowering to bullies and to what others may think of them.

15. I say Bush should be protested as the unPresident, wherever he
goes, by whoever can make the trip. I would go myself if I could afford it. Evidently she can, and I say -

More Power to Her!

16. I'm of two minds about this. It is consistent with her "why won't
you meet with me and tell me what noble cause my son died for?" position. It may expose her to criticism, but I don't think she was ever running for the office of "Rosa Parks of the anti-war movement." It sure shows her determination to dog Dubyah's every move, Jane Fonda comparisons or not. On a 1-10 I give it a 6, although it would be hard to dance to...

21. Good For Her!
Bush**'s lies have cost Cindy the life of her son.

If she wants to hound him wherever he goes until he is held accountable
then I wish her well and admire her tenacity.

I think it is long past time that we abandon the
Must-Not-Criticize-the-pResident-While-Outside-the-US meme!

It is vitally important that we DO make our voices heard outside the country,
so that people realize that the thieves do not speak for us.
