H1B Visas-Taking American jobs

Moreover, H-1B workers continue to flood a terrible job market. During 2001 and 2002, 799,100 H-1B visas were issued and renewed despite a 6 percent national unemployment and 8 percent in Silicon Valley. The H-1B visa limits were set during more prosperous economic times but now can't be justified when so many highly trained Americans remain unemployed.

Congress needs to increase domestic worker safeguards, significantly reduce the number of H-1B visas issued, and crackdown on visa violations and fraud.

2. My city is filled with H-1B visa people.
At the same time we have lots of highly qualified people who are unable to find jobs--except the occasional temp. work. And then they are usually working with H-1B people.

3. This site is for H1B visa holders

Helps them get jobs. This is unfair to Americans in a terrible Bush economy who could use a good paying job.

4. Bush's DOL Sec Chu stripped fines, investigations, US worker rights
See my prior posting of this information at DU

Clinton and his labor secretary at least left language intact where a US worker could complain, cause an investigation, and reestablish his/her lawful rights. Sec Chu makes that impossible plus she prevents DOL Office of Inspector General from even starting fraud investigations.

Now I hear they are upping H1B visa limits purportedly because companies can't find enough trained US workers... Hello, colleges aren't training enough US engineers/IT personnel now that students know from the git-go employers will just hire from overseas anyway.

Congress needs to wake up. Kriky, even Robert Samuelson's article shows he's had a sea-change:

The Hard Truth of Immigration
No society has a boundless capacity to accept newcomers, especially when many of them are poor or unskilled workers.
