Water fluoridation now illegal in the UK
I started a thread here on DU months ago on the need to remove fluoride from our water supply. I was surprised by inane reasoning in support of the forced medical treatment we call fluoridation and was surprised that the thread got locked because of the insight to be gained from the fluoridation issue including the filtering the opposition down to silence by the controlled media. Even if you think fluoride is wonderful how can you justify it being put in all water when only a few cup fulls a day reach your mouth? Fluoridation has always been a rare thing in Europe because it is calling for forced medicine.

This link at CureZone.com has links to other articles relating to fluoridation. In is in the breaking health news, because the practice of fluoridation in all of the European Union became illegal this week. From http://www.curezone.com/forums/m.asp?f=237&i=3283

´Fluoridation in UK is now illegal´

Press Release

Embargoed 1.00am Nov 1st 2005

NAMAF - North and Midlands Against Fluoridation
& The National Register of Children with Dental Fluorosis

Campaigners will lobby Directors of the Board for the newly formed Consumer Council for Water ( known as CCWater)

Venue : Consumer Council for Water - Victoria Square House, Victoria Sq. Birmingham, B2 4AJ

Time: 1st November 2005 10.00am - 12.00 o clock

New EU legislation - DIRECTIVE 2004/27/EC OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 31 March 2004 amending Directive 2001/83/EC
(see 9 below) has an impact on all existing fluoridation schemes which currently affect 6 million people in the UK who are forced to drink, cook with and bathe in fluoridated water.
l
All ingestible substances are either foods or medicines, when fluoride - in ANY
form - is added to water with the intent to medicate then that water becomes
a medicine, and must comply with the regulations relating to the registration,
licensing, sale and administration of medicines.

This is now an absolute requirement, and enforceable under EU legislation, the UK Government´s dispensation for silicofluorides to be used to medicate dental caries is without substance.

8. Do you need fluoride to wash your car?
You know they could sell fluoride to add to water if you want it don't you?

Fluoridation forces use or do you want to argue that point?

16. Just like they could sell iodide instead of put it in salt
or folic acid instead of put it in enriched flour. How about Vitamin D in milk?

Make any of these optional, and educated and well-off people will buy and use them. Large numbers of poor or uneducated people will not, even if they are offered free. In essence, you condemn lots of poor people to a lower standard of health by switching to the opt-in system.

Currently, people who don't want fluoride in their water are free to buy unfluoridated water, so there is no compulsory consumption.

Meanwhile, here's what these public health measures have brought to nearly all people in the US:

- Fluoride causes major reductions in tooth decay.

- Iodide wiped out goiter and decreased the incidence of thyroid cancer.

- Folic acid has caused a 20% reduction in heart disease mortality since being added to flour in the early 1990s.

- Vitamin D supplements have eliminated rickets.

Peace.

10. I've never lived anywhere that put fluoride in the water
I've only had one cavity in my life, and it didn't show up until I was in my early twenties. There is an entrenched set of beliefs which claim that only water fluoridation stands between white teeth and a foul, rotten mouth, and that belief is total bunk. Most water companies in the western US DON'T fluoridate, and we aren't any likelier to experience tooth decay than people who live in areas that DO.

It's a failed social experiment, and as such it should be killed off. The idea that people should be medicated against their will for no provable benefit is asinine.

12. let's work on chlorine next.
Ever see what a cup of chlorine can do to anything after long contact? And isn't chlorine gas a poison?

Oh my gosh. I just realized that chlorine exists in salt. WE NEED TO BAN SALT!

13. Unbrilliant
The ADA statistics are abundantly clear. The frequency of cavity formation and bone loss fell DRAMATICALLY when flourides were added to the water.

Your single datapoint, while signs of good genetics and fortune, hardly discount the huge dataset available from the ADA.

Call them. Ask for a copy of the data.

20. Whatever. I don't smoke, I don't drink, and I only eat organic.
I have no interest in putting manmade chemicals and carcinogens into my body, so keep your flouride out of my water.

FWIW, my home also has a whole-house filtration system that takes everything out of the water, from chlorine to pesticides. If the local water company DID decide to start flouridation, my filters will take that out too.

18. I agree with...
"The idea that people should be medicated against their will for no provable benefit is asinine."

And it doesn't bother me that The John Birch Society was right. My government should let me have a choice about consuming fluoride. But all I see is a lot of straw-man arguments about fluoride.

22. Pretty sad
that the inanity rears its ugly head again. Too bad people won't engage in an honest debate with you on this issue and instead resort to ridicule.

Fluoride is poison. In fact the substance put into the municipal water supplies is hydrofluosilicic (sp?) acid-Not "fluoride" at all- that comes from the scrubbers of industrial smokestacks primarily those from Cargill phosphate fertilizer plants in Florida.

But we live in a society where most people have little idea of where their food comes from, what is in it and how important all of this is to our well being.
Look around you and see the tragedy of our nations health. Obesity is rampant and cancer rates are soaring. Air and water are foods as well as the the stuff we chew on.
It's too bad to see the derision.

As a point of fact Kentucky is the most heavily fluoridated state in the union. Worst rate of dental caries-Kentucky.
