Do we really live in tough times?
I heard two republicans today mention 'times are tough'. I am 27 but my family made sure I understood how easy things are these days. I don't believe times a little harder than last decade but 'times are tough' I don't think so.

6. Tough times?
Like what:

A war against Nazi superman out for world conquest?

A world where disease ran rampant and the life expectancy was 30?

Living in a world where one computer error could start WW III?

Walking to school 10 miles in neck deep snow uphill - both ways?

Getting up in the morning, two hours BEFORE you go to bed, working an 18 hours shift, coming home, having your parents KILL you and dance around your grave, and do it all again tomorrow?

And young people won't believe you?

7. There are thousands of victims of hurricanes this year
that don't know where their head will lay down tonight, or tomorrow, no thanks to FEMA.
It depends on your status in our country. I think times are tough for many people.
And prior to this year's hurricanes, many people went hungry. We just never heard about them.
Don't let anyone kid you. They may not be tough for you at the moment, but there isn't one reason I think they will get much better.
And soldiers in Iraq? Do you think times are tough for them?

8. I think it depends on where you are and who you are.
If you are trying to survive a natural disaster like the disastrous hurricane we just had, or the poor Pakistanis trying to survive the disastrous earthquake they just endured up in the Himalayas, it's very tough times indeed. But those of us who aren't there, maybe aren't feeling how tough it is.

I think we should have done better by now in using our knowledge and resources to make this earth a better place. It seems though that the culture of greed has trumped the culture of a better life for all.

10. You are so right on the money.
Gaaahhhhh!!!!! The rethuglikans are wearing me down. I have struggled day to day, paycheck to paycheck for so long (it seems) that I have been more worried about my own well being today than those that have it sooo much worse than I. Where the hell have my values gone!!! Fuck, I can't believe I have fallen into the rethugs trap...

12. This is the worst of times in my 58 years!!
Income down, savings gone, no health insurance except for the VA, basic necessities cost 30-40 percent more than when Bushit was selected, still using my old 1999 Apple computer because I cannot afford a new one, don't go out to eat, don't go anywhere unless it's a necessity, meat only one meal a day, selling anything I can on eBay. Hell, life seemed better when I was drafted in the Army 35 years ago. There was hope when you got out back then. I don't see any hope today.

13. Everybody is teetering
I've had worse times for sure, but then again my kids are grown. Twenty years ago there was a pretty decent safety net. Now, one little thing and you are literally right over the cliff. And I kind of think we haven't even begun to see the affects of Katrina. When the first cold snap hits hard, ugh, I don't even want to think about it. No, it's not the depression, not yet.
