3. the kids are rioting and burning stuff
this has been going on for days now, i think it started over the deaths of a couple of kids at the hands of the police.

5. yes, that is what they said. but last night was the 7th night and has
spread to about 20 towns now (I assume that meant not just Paris).

10. It seems to be a case of resentment and bitter rage at the status quo
Many towns that are in the shadow of Paris suffer from relatively high unemployment, and the result is higher crime rates and a less pleasant life in general. Accusations of police brutality and issues of racism only add more fire to the situation. It doesn't sound too different from Los Angeles in that aspect, does it?
