Niger, bodies on CNN, $455 b deficit -- WE WILL SOON HAVE PRESIDENT POWELL
Edited on Wed Jul-16-03 06:00 PM by RegenerationMan
The Repubs and the media are getting rid of Cheney and Bush. Their credibility is shot and won't allow them to win the election or stonewall the 9-11 investigation. THe media and even some Repub senators are obviously out to axe first Cheney, have Powell appointed VP, then Bush steps down--and soon, before the public and the 9-11 Commission gets too hot under the collar.

It sounds great BUT the problem is how in the world will the Democrats beat Powell, the first black President??? The media will be 24/7 "The FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT, The FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT" and the pundits will say let's give the FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT a chance at solving the Mideast, Iraq and the economy--and the incumbent PRESIDENT POWELL will get a hefty share of the black vote.

Notice how Powell is insulated from the 16 words because he didn't include them in his UN presentation 8 days later AND he said the Aluminum Tubes were disputable that same day.

Colin Powell will be President--and it's not going to take a long time. The powers that be have decided, it's the only chance for the Repukes to beat the Ds. Otherwise how could PNAC invade any more countries? No Powell, no invasions.

Look at the media suddenly. Bush gives a speech on the economy this afternoon and MSNBCFOXCNN all covered Powell's news conference in Germany instead! And Powell himself was pissed when Rove and Gingrich et al. tried to get rid of him a few months back. That's when he must have decided to * or get off the pot. Then he just gave the President rope to hang himself on yellowcake and aluminum. He knew Bush has an "intelligence problem"!

ALL TO MAINTAIN POWER and STONEWALL. Just my humble opinion and you heard it here on DU first. PRESIDENT POWELL (unfortunately at this point) by the end of the FALL!

We're going to need a War Hero/Peace Warrior to beat General/President Powell!

IMAGINE PRESIDENT KERRY!!

4. He's just as guilty as the rest of 'em
He even presented the case to the U.N. even though he thought much of it was bullshit.

32. Aluminum Tubes of Mass Destruction
Although Powell knew better than to repeat Bush*'s "yellow cake" lies to the UNSC, he did go on about the aluminum tubes that he claimed could be used in uranium production. That claim was thoroughly debunked. Powell knew, or should have known, that the claim was false, the tubes in question could not have been used for the purposes claimed. he is just as culpable for this debacle as von Rumsfeld, Rice, Cheney, Wolfowitz and their witless boss George "AWOL" Bush*.

33. Powell knew that the tubes were false no doubt
But he provided himself deniability by saying they were disputed at the UN presentation.

5. Agree
I used to worry that Cheney wouldn't run because of "health problems" and that Condi or Powell would take his place and screw the Democrats. But both Condi and Powell are in too deep. Just remember the speech Powell gave at the UN. He didn't include Niger but he did include other BS.

6. The Media and Repukes will Protect Powell
I agree he's in on it but it doesn't matter.

The Media and Repukes will Protect Powell, cause he will be their best shot at winning--despite a Bush resignation.

2. the silver lining in your prediction is...
...powell would be much better on domestic policies than Bush and Co. and it would get the closet racists in the fundamentalist conservative core of the GOP hot under the collar.

10. Yep. And he was elected legitimately into the House.
But could he beat Our Guy in 2004??? I doubt it. The repukes would not necesarily nominate him. Frist would be my bet.

12. I doubt Frist or any Repuke will run against an incumbent President Powell
No Republican would even run against him except maybe Gary Bauer. And Bush can just transfer to Powell the whole $34 million he's already raised I believe. Isn't that right?

The media would crush any Repuke opposition to the FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT.

11. EXACTLY MY POINT! THIS WILL BE WORSE!
I'm saying this is bad news! Powell will give lip service to domestic issues enough to fool America all over again and the NY Times and the Washington Post will be very kind to him in their reporting.

At this point Bush is beatable! President Powell will be much tougher to defeat...

13. Bush can just appoint Powell VP, Hastert will never see it.
Hastert would never win a Presidential Election and everyone knows that. It's only Hastert in a succession, if both Bush and Cheney should die.

Just like '74, Bush will appoint Powell VP and the Senate confirms him, then Bush flies back to Crawford and Powell moves into the White House with Alma, THE FIRST BLACK FIRST LADY.

I'm worried....

He got in front of the UN, before the entire world, and lied, lied, lied through his teeth.

A man of integrity and honor would have resigned. Not our Colin, no sirreeee.

Who'd a thunk that?? Yes, Frist. If he wants to stay as Republican Majority Leader. Frist won't want to, he'll have to. Just as the Repubs made Lott stand aside. This is just a tiny bit bigger!

25. Excuse me but Powell is going down as well
Powell is just as much to blame as the others are. He stood up and lied right in front of the cameras.
He is a leftover liar from Daddy Bush's days in office.

Why the hell anyone trusts this man is beyond me.

26. Forget all of that...
America isn't ready for a Black president, Republican or not! Too many people merely pay lip service to a belief in equality and their belief in Powell.

If he wasn't assasinated before the election, as soon as his candidacy showed any signs of success, he'd be smeared (rightly or wrongly) beyond recognition. Face it, it won't happen... not in this lifetime.

Edited on Thu Jul-17-03 11:36 AM by RegenerationMan
Then Ford by Rockefeller as VP when Ford ascended to the Oval Office. That's how Powell will be installed. First VP appointed by Bush then to the top spot...

30. pResident POWELL----Another Fuck-Up
This dude has built a whole reputation just on being well spoken. What he has actually DONE, going back to Vietnam, is to screw up everything he touches, either actively or by "following orders" of his puppetmasters.

He has been run by the CHEENEE-RUMS axis for years. He wasn't helpful to President CLINTON.

Anyway, from the frying pan...

31. ...into the fire I agree.
Could Kerry or Dean or anybody beat Powell with the media behind him and a hefty share of the African-American vote and the military vote? I think electorally Powell would take swing states Bush couldn't win because of the African-American vote.

Kerry's military record becomes even more important if it happens.
