I am done!
After reading news of CIA secret prisons, cutting legal immigrants from Food Stamp benefits, cutting foster care payments, Brownie's fashion emails...I am done. I am in a crisis of dispair! How did we come to this?

I have always been a Democrat, was raised in a Democratic family. But, I admit that sometimes I see things through rose colored glasses. I still have trouble believing the people are as horrid to each other as the Republicans seem to be to anyone that is not like them! They spout their What Would Jesus Do message, while they step on anyone different then them! I am a Christian, but can not stomach going to Church at the moment, to hear them spew hate from the pulpit. This is not the Jesus that I was taught about in childhood.

Thanks for letting me rant. If I could crawl under a rock for the next 3 years I would do it....

2. Not all churches spew hate, either.
I'll bet that there are even some in Georgia that don't.

Hang in there. Keep up the good fight.

5. I am looking...
If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks guys for the thoughts. Perhaps I need a trip to the coffee shop for a high fat, high calorie beverage to re-charge my batteries!

24. Unitarian Univeralists?
Very touchy-feely, I'm OK, You're OK, embracing diversity, tolerance, etc. I've gone a couple times & it's a very different atmosphere from most churches.

25. Couple of donuts can't hurt either!! Carbs are good stuff.
Don't give up on church, though. Maybe the one you've been going to isn't right for you, but there's bound to be one somewhere that is. I probably sound old-fashioned and may be out of step with lots of DU'ers on this, but for me personally, there's a spiritual part of my life that needs to be nourished.

4. I agree.
If 2006 does not change the balance of power, I'm moving to Canada. It's obvious the American people no longer want Bush. If the vote is fixed in 2006, I see no hope short of revolution.

16. Keep an eye on the upcoming California special election
if Arnie's redistricting proposal gets passed,
California in 2008 will be like Ohio in 2004 and Florida in 2000.

7. I understand.
It does get to be too much sometimes, doesn't it? I used to think that basically, people are good, but the *co Administration has really shaken that belief. People can justify any horror. It's disheartening.

But, those of us who aren't like that can't ignore it or wish it away. We have to fight against it, try to change things. We can't leave the world to these people.

My advice? Well, when I've gotten to that point, I usually take a break from the news, pet my pets, take a walk ... and then when my batteries are recharged, jump right back in.

8. I give that rant a 10!
Hold your breath. Breathe in, breathe out.

Sounds like your church has a right wing preacher. Maybe you should try a different church.

All is not lost. Dubya's job approval rating has sunk to 35% in the latest CBS News poll. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/polls.html

We can take the Senate, and maybe even the House, next year.

14. Breathing...Breathing....
Yes that is much better...Thanks.

I think the Grande White Chocolate Mocha with whipped cream may be helping as well.

Back on point, I still think that if it were not for my animals, I would sell everything, join some volunteer group and move to Africa or South East Asia. I mentioned this to my mother not to long ago, so now she asks about the health of my elderly dog at the beginning of every conversation! I am at a point where I again need to feel like I can make a difference...*sigh* Although on a brighter note, we do have a Governor's race here in GA, and things are looking brighter for the Democratic party. I am hopeful we can take back the Governor's mansion next year. So, maybe I'll wait around long enough for those results.

Thanks to everyone this morning...And I was reminded by a fellow Dem here at work that today is Scooter Arraignment Day. We are going to lunch to celebrate.

26. If each of us can make a little difference we will prevail.
Hope your dog is doing OK. Doing right by him at the end will be just as rewarding as the rest when you look back on it.

"Ain't but three things in this world that's worth a solitary dime:
Old dogs and children, and watermellon wine"

I have 2 cats right now, and to me they are just like children.

There is something that I decided a few years back, after 56 years living on this planet: If people have souls, then dogs and cats certainly do also.

United Church of Christ http://www.ucc.org/
Unitarian Universalist http://www.uua.org/
Unarius http://www.unarius.org/

If you can't find a church you like - join a UFO cult!

10. I gave up on organized religion years ago
I have this little pet peeve regarding hypocrisy. I used to spend four nights a week at church, between rehearsals for the two choirs I was in, bible study, youth services, etc., I was part of the furniture.

IMHO, God has a plan for people like you and me.

In end times, even God's chosen will be led astray. You and I remember 'thou shalt not kill' while churches across the nation support killing, 'thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor' while churches support Bush's lies. We remember Jesus saying that whatsoever we do unto the least of men we do unto him, while churches across the nation support the killing of enemies instead of loving them like we are supposed to. Tell many a Christian today that God loves Saddam Hussein and you are open to some pretty fierce verbal abuse.

I love spiritual people, but religious people scare the hell out of me.

18. Credit goes to a friend of mine
who happens to be a gay minister in a metaphysical church:) He is a very, very wise man. We've had many a discussion on politics, church, gospel and the bastardization of all of the above. He is so kind and so good that I cannot believe that God does not love him or want him in heaven, despite what your garden variety Christian might say about him, and I believe they would say a lot of horrid things... again, you are supposed to treat people the way you would treat Christ. I might sound way hippie-dippy here, but all you ever needed to know you can find in rock 'n roll... war is not the answer, for only love can conquer hate.

Imagine how far we could go, how shocking it would be, if America were to treat EVERYONE with love... there are loving answers to everything, even war.

12. I feel your pain and many other people do as well....Jimmy Carter to start
with. Over the last several days, Carter has been interviewed on CNN, NBC and other networks and he is speaking of the exact feelings we are experiencing. Bottom line, Carter was saying that over the next several years we have to work as hard as we can to change the direction of the country...talk to people, letters to the editor, get out the vote, etc. It seems like a daunting task, but I honestly feel the future of our country hangs in the balance.

19. i tell my "christian" church going friends, not a chance i will
participate in religion right now. religion has walked from christs word and for me to participate would be me turning my back on jesus. i wont do it.

it jolts them.

i ask them to reflect why..... so many people right now have such issue with them. maybe this lesson is for them.
