Always be careful not to point fingers.
I am sure I went to sleep and someone moved me to a different country. This can not be the country others once looked to for guidance. It can't be.

I know there have been critics who say that you can not compare * to Hitler because it would make us look like we were on the fringe and it would hurt our cause.

Perhaps the people are right with their suggestion. Hitler was a long time ago and so perhaps we need to update Hitler and insert the name "Saddam". Yes, Saddam is fresh in everyone's mind and he is someone everyone seems to know about.

So if we compare both, what would be a fair method? How much more fair could it be then to use the exact standards set forth by our government? Sure there may be some who think that would be unfair to Saddam but let's go with what we have.

First of all, the US government POINTED at Saddam and said he tortures people and that must be stopped. We stepped in and according to neutral reports, we have committed horrendous torture. We also have even shipped people off to countries that permit torture. (you know, just to get around that pesky law thing)

I guess critics would have us on that point. We said torture is unacceptable and yet we are performing torture. But the US is a moral beacon so this is just an anomaly, right? Let's move on and not dwell on something so sad.

We POINTED at Saddam and said he would not let the UN inspectors in. We al now know that the inspectors were there and they were given full access. We even know that we had to give them a warning to get out before we invaded Iraq.

What about the US and the UN? Well today we heard that the US will let the UN into Guantanamo but they will not give them full access as was granted by Saddam in Iraq. The UN, if they accept our offer, will never get a chance to even talk to the prisoners who claim to be tortured. The UN has said they would not lower standards for other countries such as China and they will not lower them for the US.

I guess this means we are behind Saddam on this one. We pointed lying fingers at him and yet we are the ones who will not co-operate with the UN. Are we supposed to assume that a country will attack us since it is one of the things we illegally occupied Iraq for? We certainly could not blame them because they would only be taking a cue from us.

We pointed a finger and accused Saddam of being a threat to others and yet no WMD's were ever found We made up lies and attacked Iraq. Even when we carpet bombed Iraq and tried to get a rise out of Saddam, he would not give in and was above it all. We attacked him unprovoked and we said he was dangerous but the man did not even defend himself against OUR unprovoked attacks.

Do not get me wrong, I am not defending Saddam. This whole rant has been about the US. We point fingers, the sheeple fall in line and yet we are doing unspeakable things. We are doing the EXACT same things that we are accusing others of.

We should be careful when we point fingers because we may see many more pointing right back at us.

Welcome to DU. I hope you will make yourself comfortable and stay a while.

I respectfully disagree with you about the worst that can happen. I did not even have to get up on a soapbox to find this out. Someone who did not like my bumper sticker did not only just disagree with me, they tried to run my car off the road and then acted in a very threatening manner to me. (I would try to go around him and he would swerve the car each time to block me).

I have also seen physical threats made to others who are liberals and who only speak what they believe is the truth. This is not just a threat such as punching the person out. That would be bad enough. The user name of this person (at another forum) was Old Yeller and people were aghast when it was stated to please remember what happened, in the end, to Old Yeller and that it was likely to happen to him as well!

In a Utopian society the worst that would happen is someone would disagree. Unfortunately we do not live in such a society.

I will also point out that * makes people sign loyalty oaths to get into any of his gatherings and people have been ARRESTED for peeling off an outer layer of clothing to show an anti-Bush shirt. That is much more than someone disagreeing with you. That is something you expect in other countries, not ours.

2. I only "point fingers" when I am CERTAIN of betrayal and abuse.
I have no problem, whatsoever, in accepting the fingers pointing back at me because I am guilty of passionate pursuit of truth and democracy while pinning those FUCKERS who have betrayed both truth and democracy.

Questions?
