5. Does it really?
I always thought it was to show hope that a soldier comes home alive. Not trying to argue, just want to know for sure if I'm wrong.

8. You have to have a blue ribbon
on your car that states: Bring Home Our Troops, I've had mine on my car for almost 6 months.

10. Can you really read the message those ribbons have on the
ribbon while driving 70 on the freeway? Not. Therefore all you see is the yellow ribbon. Connotation and recognition of "support the war" Wish I could find the article re this same issue just recently. I will look.

7. You know, just the other day I've noticed that I see less of them
When I first observed them last year and wondered whether they went hand in hand with the B/C sticker, some here said no, that they had them, too. Someone even posted a photo of the back of his car... there was no doubt that he was a Democrat.

But several months ago I actually saw a car with the yellow, or was it the one with the American flag? and another sticker saying: I support our troops and our president.

And since then I do view these cars spaciously.

9. Nope
AFAIK, the yellow ribbon means you support the troops coming home safely.

It was originally used for prisoners of war, I believe...people would put yellow ribbons in front of their house in hopes the loved one would be released and come home.

Nothing about yellow ribbons says you support the war.

14. kinda like OUR flag
Edited on Wed Nov-02-05 02:45 PM by CountAllVotes
It used to mean that it was displayed as an act of patriotism and acknowledgement of a specific day in history and/or event (like a death of an important person in history).

Now it means that you support the war and *.

:patriot:

I WANT MY DAMN FLAG and MY COUNTRY BACK!

12. I think the ribbons have different meanings for people.
I was behind a truck a while ago that had three ribbons on it: a yellow-support-the-troops,
a red-white-blue-god-bless-america, and a camouflage-support-the-troops-bring-them-home-now.
It takes some nerve to have the last on your vehicle where I'm at.

22. Not my vehicle; I've got the daily casualties on mine.
I think they left the other 2 on to make the 3rd's message more palatable.
It's all guess work, though. It would be interesting to know in what order they were stuck on.

25. I know they don't belong to you, but you could suggest how
much more sense it makes just to leave the last, as the first confusses the last and how much more clear the message would be w/o the other two. What is casualty number today. Last couple days I saw that it was 2025, but I think that was before they killed the Co.

26. I was behind them in traffic, not engaged in conversation with them.
People have different comfort levels of how far they feel they can "speak out".
The couple in the truck probably thought long and hard about putting the 3rd one on.
I had 2027 as the casualty #; I see it's now 2033. :(

13. I was drivng to work this morning and had a positive experience.
I have several bumper stickers on the back of my car, but the biggest being, "Bush Lied, Thousands Died". Really large, probably 1.5 feet wide.

Today on the higway, I was passing a CSX truck (railroad co.)with a couple of guys on their way to work as well. I had just pulled ahead of them and was going to merge over when they began to accelerate to catch up with me. Uh-oh I thought, here it comes, couple of good ole boys wanna give me a ration of shit (sorry already had my monthly ration).

As they pulled even, I looked over, and instead of the scowls and the "You're #1" signs I expected, I got a big thumbs up from the guy driving, which I returned. A bit further down the road we intersected again, and shared a friendly wave of ackowledgement and understanding.

Felt good...and reminded me to not so quickly judge a book by its cover.

15. Not all people believe it means that
I live on a military base and plenty of people I know have the yellow ribbon magnets and do not support the war.

While my husband was in Iraq, I had a yellow ribbon on my house but in no way did I support the war. It was an actual ribbon, not a magnet or cut out thing.

I tend to think people with the ribbon magnets do support the war, but it isn't necessarily the case.

21. The profit for the magnets has been debated here many times.
Edited on Wed Nov-02-05 02:54 PM by lonestarnot
The meaning of the magnets has come to connote "I support this war" just ask people who have them. That's why I was so shocked this two guys gave theirs up to me.
