What does Bush keep in his pockets?
Wednesday, November 2, 2005; Posted: 8:44 a.m. EST (13:44 GMT)

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush may be burdened with the world's problems, but his pockets are pretty light.

It turns out the leader of the free world doesn't have to worry about carrying all the essentials of the common man.

Bush revealed the contents of his pockets Tuesday to an Argentine newspaper reporter who was interviewing him in advance of a presidential trip to Latin America later this week.

When the reporter from La Nacion asked Bush to show him what he carries, the president stood up, fished in his pockets, then dramatically pulled his hands out holding nothing but a white handkerchief that he waved playfully in the air....

***

"Si, Timex," Bush said, thrusting out his wrist to show off a timepiece that had his middle initial, W, on the face. "But I'm not supposed to be endorsing products."

All his needs are taken care of by flunkies and flacks. Probably has been like that all his life.

He's not like the rest of us.

14. Yep, just like Prince Charles.
I read that was why Diana was adamant about taking the boys to McDonald's and regular places so that they would know what things cost in the real world.

She's always carrying a purse and people were wondering why she needs one at all.

The answer? She carries makeup and handkerchieves only.

19. I think the royal family is prohibited from carrying money
But that could be some misremembered bit of trivia from a memory battered over the years by sampling the various gifts of nature bestowed upon me by a benevolent God.

At any rate, I'm glad to see that the media outlets have quit covering all those dreary "who outed the CIA agent" and "did we get suckered into a war through lies" stories and gotten back to what's really important.

18. This isn't that odd. Poppa had the same problem producing an ID
just after he was out of office.

This story pops up every few years. No biggee but I would think that I would have a wallet on my just in case.

40. Yes,
he's fighting the terrorists over there so that we don't have to fight them over here... because IF they attacked us here, Bush's white hanky is, what, pretty much our only line of national defense?

Thank god we implimented every single last recommendation of the 9/11 Commission without any delay whatsoever...

Edited on Wed Nov-02-05 09:55 AM by onehandle
The President carries nothing and in the case of the two fictional Presidents I cite, they are pretty frustrated by this. They complained that their car keys and credit cards were locked up when they entered the White House.

Shrub is fine with this because he's a spoiled little nine year old in the body of a full grown chimp.

I have no idea what Bill Clinton's handlers let him carry around, but I bet it wasn't much.

purse so that she can leave a tip . . . she's evil.

Bush doesn't have ID on him, and he's a great guy . . .

34. Nothing in the pockets and 48 dresses. It's a glorious media morning.
all they need is a new lead in Aruba and a long car chase in LA.

It would be nice to say he has nothing in the head to match his pockets - but, he always has a tally - a tally of those who are loyal and the ones marked for revenge and who have been avenged.

is with this American fascination about the pocket-contents of politicians? I remember reading a Time magazine article back around the Iowa primaries that focused solely on the fact that Dean carried cookies in his pockets...
