Breaking: Camilla brought 48 outfits to the US!
Edited on Wed Nov-02-05 10:15 AM by cynatnite
banging head against keyboard now. :banghead:

on edit: MSNBC did spent time going over Camilla's clothes :eyes: Sure, their coming is news. I can accept frivolity in the news cycle, but her clothes??? Give me a break.

4. I don't even *have* 48 outfits. Even half that.
Remind me again why we need monarchs in the 21st century?

6. Disgusting waste of time, money, human and natural resources is the
monarcy. Why is it still a functioning entity?

13. Because the British people apparently want it to continue
It's not as if the British royal family has had an army to enforce their rule for the last hundred years. If people in Britain wanted to get rid of the monarchy, they could do so at any time, I'd think.

I'm no fan of the concept of royalty, but there's a world of difference between the King of Nepal and the Queen of England. One is a despot, the other is now more of a 'spokesmodel'...

30. Thankfully we're beginning to see the light
Give it a couple of generations & then they'll hopefully be enough backing to kick them out (current polls have support for the monarchy at between about 2/3 & 1/2). As things stand at the moment, MP's aren't even allowed to discuss the monarchy in the House of Commons - not to mention the oath of allegiance. And the restrictions about arguing for the abolishment of the monarchy in print. It's one case where I'm proud to be a republican!

26. because, unlike Parliament, they actually care about people.
And Liz provides a non-partisan link with England's great past. She also actually served in the Big War, unlike the Bush Twins, etc.

Keeping Liz and the gang in crowns, etc. costs Britain less than W costs us. They're not whoring for corporate money they way MPs do.

When there were the East End racial riots about 15 years ago, Charles was there the next day, not any MPs. When QEII visited Washington, she visted the poor neighborhoods. Nelson Mandela didn't.

Read Sue Townsends' The Queen and I about the Windsors being bounced out of the Buck House and into public housing. It's a great satire on the whole thing.

10. So what? Chuck and Camilla are in show business...
Would you be pissed off if your heard that Elton John (for example) brought along 50 outfits on a world tour? I doubt it.

I think there are better targets for outrage these days.

Didn't we fight 225 years ago to get rid of it? Fuck the king!

We're still taught that royalty is to be admired and the pinnacle of success (for a woman, especially) is to "marry up" -- "some day my Prince will come."

It's really appalling. These are people who live off the wealth accumulated from the labor of others and who were made safe by sacrificing the lives of others -- for many generations! Talk about winning the sperm lottery. Despicable.

There are other things that we should get outraged over. This is such a small thing to not worry about.

18. Give her a break.
If she wore one outfit per day, as most of us do in our real lives, she'd be criticized even more unmercifully. And even we peasants are likely to change into a different outfit if we're going to something dress-up in the evening.

She probably also has to allow for potential unexpected weather.

Diane has been dead for eight years now. Yeah, it's really been that long. And even though it was despicable of Charles to cheat on her during his marriage to her, as well as for Camilla to cheat on her husband, that's basically what passes for normal among the British upper class.

Charles and Camilla are now married to each other, and from all reports are quite happy together. The only shame is that he didn't have the good sense to marry her thirty something years ago.

Seems she's taken to the other extreme.

Be yourself Camilla! Tell 'em to 'sod off'!
