Bernie, bernie, let me make some points about this.... for the people need to be educated on this, for knowledge is power and this will allow people not to be scared...

It is critical that folks learn to distinguish between Bush and his cronies who have no clue and the chances of a pandemic.

1.- HSN1 has killed so far 100 people, lord knows how many birds and has not made an efficient species to species jump... it is just a matter of time. not when. And the WHO has been on the look out for this since 1995. Industrial bird farms are great incubators for this crap, and if you think about it, the 1918 Epidemic is a type of Bird Flu.

2. - We have had no pandemic since 1963... from historical data we are overdue. this is why they are concerned at the World Heath Organization. (Hong Kong Flu)

3.- Tamiflu reduces the severity of symptoms, but most importantly makes the patient less infectious

4.- The only maker so far of Tamiflu is Roche Labs, who are in the process of licensing it out. (And in this case I believe Rummy is a "good businessman" seeing an opportunity to making a buck... his is blood money

5.- Recommendations from the WHO are for 25% of the population to be covered by Tamiflu, it is believed that if you get to patients Zero and isolate and medicate them, you may be able to contain it. That said, modern travel patterns and other issues, I have my doubts that a transitional quarantine will work... UNLESS the minimum WHO recommendation is met... then we have hope. Of course you also need a medical delivery system that is capable of doing this. Mind you, the US right now has a stockpile of less than 1% of the population and you can bet your sweet pie that President Bush will have his available.

We need to really differentiate between Bush and his minions and the very real possibility of a repeat of the 1918 epidemic. Now in that very early WHO communique they worst cased this to 1B dead... since then they have pulled back to 100 million world wide... what I am asking is, way too many people listen to you and in this one... bush is chicken little and very late to the party... they will use this to implement what they were planning to do under cover of a disaster, but the HSN1 Virus is real... and the risk of a pandemic is real.

Oh and my credentials... I used to be a MEXICAN Red Cross Medic up to 1995. I still remember the first WHO comunique about something amiss in SE Asia.

As I said, we need to keep perspective for Bush and company are using this to do what they want to do (suspend Posse Comitatus) But Bird Flu is real... and a real threat.
