B*sh/Cheney's OWN CHURCH now officially OPPOSING their policies!

Please drop in over there and share a few of those "greatest page" votes!)

It's one thing when former high-ranking members of your own Administration
come out against your war.
It's another thing when two-thirds of the country
calls the invasion and occupation a mistake.
It's really something when your own church issues a
statement urging you to pull out the troops now.

Last week, the United Methodist Church Board of Church and Society--the social action committee of the church that both
President Bush and Vice President Cheney belong to--resoundingly passed a resolution calling for withdrawal with only two 'no'
votes and one abstention.

"As people of faith, we raise our voice in protest against the tragedy of the unjust war in Iraq," the statement read. "Thousands of
lives have been lost and hundreds of billions of dollars wasted in a war the United States initiated and should never have fought....
We grieve for all those whose lives have been lost or destroyed in this needless and avoidable tragedy. Military families have suffered
undue hardship from prolonged troop rotations in Iraq and loss of loved ones. It is time to bring them home."

The board also issued a strong statement against torture, urging Congress to create an independent, bipartisan commission to
investigate detention and interrogation practices at Guantanamo, Iraq and Afghanistan.

2. I can't imagine they share a church, or much of anything else.
Think about it; Cheney chattin' w/Bush? Nothing to talk about!
Are either of them seriously religious? Nah!

6. Of course they're not religious
but they know all the prayers by heart and they go every sunday, so by today's standards they qualify. :(

9. No, but they are members for APPEARANCEs sake. And this is a great...
...great bit of news to send to some of the clueless Fundies
who never watch the news, but support him because
they heard he was a "christian".

4. If I am not mistaken - 500 or so Methodist ministers attempted to
deliver their signatures on an anti-war petition to b*sh prior to the invasion. They were not allowed past the WH gates (of hell).

5. The United Methodist Church
has condemned the actions all along. Prior to the invasion the Council of Bishops made some very scathing statements. I wondered why they had seemingly backed away from their rebukes. I am happy to see they are starting to turn up the heat.

I was raised a Methodist. I haven't been to church in probably thirty years. However, prior to the invasion when they were voicing their opposition, I told my mom I was so proud I was tempted to attend a service.

21. Yep , I met a great Methodist Minister at Camp Casey and he said that
at least 2/3s of the entire council disliked Bushy intensely and they couldn't believe he actually thinks he is one of them.

Im a pagan but that minister made me feel so good... He meant to come down for a few days right at the beggining and he wound up staying nearly the whole time.

I saw Catholic priests perform a service and they offered the body and blood to all who would have it... gay, pagan, or purple they loved you for being a human being that cared enough to end this war.

Geeze I really need to write an essay on Camp Casey again... it was just sooo good.

7. Okay, listen up fundamentalist repukelicans
and other arcane cults who praise these creatures as "good moral churchgoing men". (Ha!)

Are you REALLY going to call these creatures "Christians" in the sight of the LORD?

11. And don't good Repubs vote the way their ministers tell them to?
We need to let them all know that B*sh/Cheney doesn't
follow that particular policy.

This has the potential to drop his numbers another percent or three!

8. But does Bush even go to that church?
I thought that the affiliation was pretty nominal, which I suppose it would be if you are taking direct orders from God. :sarcasm:

10. This should be enjoyable the next time Bush decides he needs
to adjust his public image a bit by making a display of himself sauntering off to church some Sunday, knowing that when he gets there, everyone in the place will be aware that his entire church views his actions as utterly inapproriate war crimes.

He needs to get shunned if he goes to church again. People should start walking out.

18. Well thank , God!
people are finally asking themselves...What would Jesus do? Certainly not invade a country, cut off the water, sewer and electric supplies, bomb-up the housing and then spend all the reparation money fixing up new bases and oil pipelines, then letting the Big Oil companies siphon off unmetered millions. I don't think Jesus would be big on torture, either. I wish their chuches would ex-communicate all of them.
