Poll question: Was Ronald Reagan better than George W. Bush**?
Just to prove that you don't get tombstoned for talking about Ronald Regan; My answer is "yes". Though Ronald Reagan was a feckless, union-bashing, stuffed suit, he wiped better stuff off his ass than Bush**.

What is YOUR opinion?

1. They are merely two different figureheads.
The essential policy is the same in pretty much every respect.

13. I think Reagan was even worse then Bush
I realize that many will disagree and insist that Bush* is worse, but that's my opinion. I honestly believe that Ronald Reagan was the worst president in the history of the United States.

3. Even with Alzheimers, Reagan wasn't as dumb as Bush
Regardless of his administration's policies, Reagan could at least get up in front of a crowd and do a good job of appearing to be a leader. Dubya has never been able to clear even that basic hurdle.

16. Yeah that was hideous.
But when you look back at America's history in Central America, RR hardly stands out. We routinely invade and destroy, meddle and kill in Central America and have for hundreds of years. This, however, excuses NONE of it.

20. What makes "Ronnie" special to us is
his administration was the first to run a media campaign that was opposite to what he did -- one that succeeded in the US. Most Americans believe he "helped" Central America. The people of Nicaragua and El Salvador know differently.

It's a long road, for sure.

8. I don't think Reagan would have taken us into Iraq after 9-11
I think Reagan was smart enough to avoid things that could turn into chaos. He did a lot of stupid things but in my opinion Bush is 100 times worse, no one will ever beat Bush as the worst President of all time as long as their are Presidents.

12. It was Reagan who created the "screw you pal society"
Other than carrying out a brutal and cruel war against the people of Central America, the real damage of Reagan was what he did to the moral character of the American people by making selfishness respectable.

15. There's no way people detested Reagan the way they detest Shrub!
I didn't answer your poll because none of my responses were there. REagan was a good performer in politics. He knew how to cajole people, and even those who disagreed with him, liked him as a person.

I guess I wastn't paying as much attention to politics then, but I remember seeing him walking to the 'copter and signaling he couldn't hear, and thnking, boy, what a cover that one is! Good way to simply not answer the media questions.

People realy HATE Shrub! I think it's because he is a fake. He can't speak a decent sentence, he can't answer any questions with a knowlegable thought, and he tries to demonstrate arrogance in everything he does.

22. he was a nice guy once upon a time.
my dad knew him during the high school years and thought he was a guy that took advantages of opportunities that unfolded in front of him. my dad felt that after he was shot he rapidly lost the ability to control his surroundings which is why nancy basically ran everything he did.
the reagan years were a bitch -but we know now who was running the reagan whitehouse. bush is so bad he makes reagan look like a moderate conservative republican...

23. Ray-gun was WORSE, because he was a pied piper, many liked him
whereas Bush is widely LOATHED.

Reagan lured many Democrats away and turned them into Republicans.

Bush has quickened many politically unaware people into active Democrats. Bush even caused Greens and Nader supporters to vote for a Democrat. Reagan, in contrast, cause many loyal Democrats to vote Republican.

Bush is worse in his direct actions; but Reagan was far worse in his effects on the electorate and the long term consequences.

Edited on Wed Nov-02-05 12:58 AM by Gloria
a finger when clinics were bombed....

I detested him. I was a nervous wreck for 8 years. Lost my job due to his recession... But mostly, hated his "social policies" (which were to destroy social programs)

When David Stockman came out and said the goal was to gut social programs and then "went to the woodshed" I knew I was correct about this bastard. And his shitty jelly beans.

Besides which, Peggy Noonan, whom I knew in high school, got her start with Reagan. Another mark against him.

To this day, Reagan makes me want to puke. I hate Bush/Bushco, I tried to ignore Poppy....but Reagan....he has a special place in the gallery of creeps that is the GOP. He was SMARMY as hell.

I would say that I hate Reagan and Bush Jr. equally...

30. Reagan was a puke in the 50s 60s 70s and 80s
"Trees cause more pollution than automobiles do." -- Ronald Reagan, 1981

"A tree is a tree. How many more do you have to look at?" -- Ronald Reagan, 1966, opposing expansion of Redwood National Park as governor of California

"Fascism was really the basis for the New Deal." Ronald Reagan, 1976, on his failed campaign for the Republican nomination.

"My name is Ronald Reagan. What's yours?" –introducing himself after delivering a prep school commencement address. The individual responded, "I'm your son, Mike," to which Reagan replied, "Oh, I didn't recognize you."

He can rot!
