Why a closed door session, why not let the public view it?
So this type of debate can occur?

Democrats: OK guys, the world is laughing at us, no one believes us anymore and we are losing a lot of business overseas because of the war and the American people have finally realized that we went to war for oil.

Republicans: While we are all aware that is true, we must come up with a plan to convince the people that the system of checks and balances is working.

Democrats: Well, we could do the investigation, create a big Bru Ha Ha, and then conclude at the end that the investigation could not conclude any wrongdoing outside of Libby and the Brits.

Republicans: OK, you go on the attack, bamboozle your following and we will assume a defensive stature....

Democrats: Deal!

Look folks, sorry to say that I have lost faith in our politicians, if the Democrats are not bullshitting us, then I'll be happy but I really do not believe any of those motherfuckers on Capital Hill anymore. I really am losing faith in our Democracy. Please convince me I am wrong.

4. Plus, the closed door rules mean a discussion can be FORCED.
Which you cannot do in open session.

5. Oh, and why the closed session?
Rule 21 isn't just for classified info.

Perhaps Reid was being the gentleman he always is, and new he and Rockefeller were about to take Roberts to the woodshed.

Better not to do that in public.

3. There was the possibility that 'National Security' info would
be discussed. Possibly classified stuff would be talked about. So, it was closed session.

That said, by the sound of it, there were a lot of people yelling at each other and calling each other names. The American people surely would have enjoyed a 'no holds bared' discussion where the 'assh*le', 'motherf*cker' and 'bastard' epitaphs flew, but the Senate decided that maybe that wasn't a good idea.

Anyone else get the impression that this must have been a hell of a good set-to?

7. Yah, I used to have a secret clearance.
Secret info cannot be seen by the public, unless of course you
are outting a CIA agent to go to war so Halliburton can make
billions.

9. Hell, the speculation is ten times more interesting than the actual
"debate".

Add the drama and the implicit statemetn that the truth is so horrific that it would harm national security to have the details out uncontrolled......

10. another point - it brought the public debate right back to Iraq
Edited on Tue Nov-01-05 10:45 PM by LSK
With the new SCOTUS nominee and all the bird-flu nonsense, the right was trying to distract again. Harry Reid jerked the public debate back to Iraq at least for tonite again.

13. The obvious reason: classified information
What I hoped for: for Sen Reid to punch out Sen. Cat Killer and all those crybaby cons who accuse Dems of their own crimes.

16. Yep!
For starters, they need to start calling it what it is. It's not selling the public, or fudging intelligence! It's Fraud! A conspiracy to defraud the Congress and ultimately, The People.
