(I think Will's format is definitely the way to go with regards to us as a group. These are just my own thoughts).
The sound you heard in the background today was us – the millions of us who call ourselves Democrats. Today, thanks to you and those who stood besides you, we were able to add a well-deserved adjective to that description. Today we were proud Democrats – proud Democrats who watched our party stand up to the schoolyard bully and say “enough." Today we said there would be no more stonewalling on our watch. We have had enough of the lying, and we have had enough of the pretending to care about soldiers dying in Iraq and citizens dying in New Orleans.
For many months, we have followed the trail of deceit that took up residence in every room of The White House, and went home with every one connected to it. With the indicting of Scooter Libby, we knew we were right, but we were worried that our representatives in Congress would not stand firm against the onslaught of half-truths and personal attacks that were sure to come against anyone who dared stand up for the truth.
We fear that no more. What we saw today was our party saying in no uncertain terms that we will ferret the truth out of this administration and out of the lackeys who do their bidding on the hill. If it takes drastic measures, then drastic measures shall be taken, for the act of lying to the American people in order to fulfill some neo-con dream of what constitutes the world must be laid bare for all to see.
Mr. Fitzgerald has given us the first piece of the puzzle, but those who laid the puzzle out have put many obstacles in the way. We look to you to move those obstacles aside, and together with all of us help restore the luster to this great nation that has been missing for far too long.
Please accept our gratitude for what you have done today, and take the fight forward with the same courage. We must find the truth and stop the evil - the America we love deserves no less.
