Reid's brilliant move
Think about it, in one fell swoop he has united the Dems under a banner of outrage over the false justifications for the war - a really justifiable cause to stand up and make a stink about. It's a sure fire winner, who can criticize the Dems for objecting to document withholding regarding pre-war intelligence? It's brilliant.

But furthermore, it sets the Senate up for a unified Dem front when/if Alito comes up to filibuster virtually with impunity.

They can point to the Senate Reps as being obstructionist and not providing documents for 'full' consideration. With this most recent example so fresh in their minds, they will have set up a delicious set of circumstances for the White House to have to squirm out of.

The possibilities are endless for the Dems on this one.

What an absolutely brilliant stategy by Reid. I hope everyone has alreay emailed or phoned their Senator in support of this move.

Seriously, Reid is screwing over Rover. Rove has not a clue what has hit him.

poor little Rove, not anticipating that the dems might grow a spine.

19. The Alito nomination was transparently obvious as a diversionary ploy
Rove knew that this nomination was going to be virtually impossible to move along in the Senate with the impending holidays - everyone knows that. But Rove obviously thought he could ram it through. I think Reid's counter move pushes this thing back for a while as the Senate re-arranges it's relationships. Frist isn't going to want to rely upon the traditional DINOS in my opinion, who may have gone along with the Alito nomination, when Reid has them fired up on Friday's exposure of the fact that the White House withheld pre-war intelligence.

Where does this leave Frist et al? Anyone care to speculate on what's next?

If nothing else, I guess I am glad Reid's managed to break the logjam on pushing the investigation to the Phase II level.

Oh, but I hope for so much more from this move!

9. Knocked Alito out of the blogosphere and gave a warning shot
to the nuclear proponents in the senate.

No empty threat this. The shell fell directly in front of the Republican juggernaut and they obviously got it. The Democrats clearly CAN and WILL make senate operations miserable if the r's push the button.

22. Reframe any "straight talk" is a strategy.. of the REPUKES. So they
Edited on Tue Nov-01-05 08:09 PM by applegrove
can then lie and say "hey our turn to tell it how we see it". There are truth out there. And we should hold them to be true. Not parrot the right wing talking points.

Reid was doing his job. His job is the be the opposition and discuss things out in the open. It is not a stunt or a strategy. He is asking questions about the greater pattern of neocon & repuke patsy actions.

If all Repukes in the House & Senate "take orders" and stop the truth from being looking into by comittee - they are not doing their jobs.

That is his point. That the senate & congress have a job to do. And the Repukes are not letting that job be done the way it is supposed to.

Harry has executed a master plan and smashed the Repukes right in the bazoo. This was worthy of LBJ in the way he strategized and then pounced at exactly the right time.

24. His framing of this also leaves the prowar DINOs an opening.
He's given them a way of saving face. They can say, "We were deceived." or "OMG!! Who coulda known?" "I was screwed!" Etc.

We all know it's bullshit, but not many of the public are as politically educated as the average DUer.

I would love to hear Hillary make that statement and come over from the dark side. We all know that she has it in her to do that. I would like to think that she wants to.

Now Reid and the Dems can give them a way to cross over and save face. I think this is what they are doing with their talk.

25. Excellent!
And definitely part of Harry Reid's stategy I would guess. I really believe Reid's has opened up possibilities on many levels including this one.

MzMolly just posted on a new thread that Dems are now pushing to delay the Alito nomination. This move gives them some strength to demand this as well.

28. Delaying Alito is a great strategy.
The Repugs are thinking "filibuster" and "nuclear option". I am now absolutely sure Harry has the Dems prepped for an appropriate response to that. But more important is the possibility that Reid and Durbin have something else in the brew.

The Dem leaders in the Senate are pissed. Heaven help the Republicans.

27. MzMolly just posted that the Dems are demanding a delay in the Alito nom
Reid's move gives them more strength to delay this nomination. As someone else pointed out on a different thread it forces O'Connor to sit in on some crucial cases this fall.

It also gives Fitz more time expose more shit so the Alito nomination moves forward within a firestorm of pre-war intelligence fraud.
