That is, due to security measures (a la Nixon et al) moving into a closed session was something typically planned.

I think this has more to do with the Dems finally getting tired of their letters going unanswered. I mean, after all, one can only file a request for information so many times before one gets frustrated.

It's also the dems showing they have some muscle left -- that they will not just roll over and take it. Now, in order for the GOP to make good on what's been done to them, they must come out and attack the dems -- which is what Frist & co. is doing now on CSPAN.

I have said a lot of good things about Harry Reid on this site over the last year. Ever since he took over the Senate, things have been looking better. He speaks clearly, he doesn't take shit, he fights, and most importantly, he fights to win.

A closed session of the senate to discuss--without Republican approval--the leak case and the case for the War. This took balls. Nobody expected it. It was a proactive move that left Frist looking like a blustered upset "why don't they respect me?" crybaby.

This marks one of the first times in five years I have seen Democrats go on the offensive and use the power they still have to do anything surprising and interesting. Harry Reid is fucking awesome.
