429 posts as of right now on outting a representative???
I have not clicked on that post because I do no care who is and is not gay...who is and is not outted...who is gay and pretends to be anti-gay...it makes me no never mind...but 429 posts on a single question?

No one here hates bush* that much and that alone makes me wonder who is here and why?

1. I wonder what's the most posts ever in a thread...
and if that one is about to beat that record.

3. I didn't click
on because I don't really care who is gay or not. If someone isn't ready to come out, they shouldn't be outed by their political enemies. That's just tasteless and tacky.

I don't think my computer would load a 429 post thread anyway.

4. Agreed
The only time a person's sexual preference is an issue should be if they are, for instance, anti-gay and they then become "outed." Fair game then.

8. Since you do not find the topic interesting, no one else should either?
If we all took that approach not one single topic would be worthy of discussion.

9. No...no...no..not that it is not interesting and should not be considered
it is just amazing that so many have posted to it...I mean in DU I would expect the biggest flame/discussion to be against bush* not a gay republican representative who is just a cog in a wheel????

10. It's not so much a flamewar as it is
a group of straights lecturing gays on how to be good little homos. Not an edifying sight.

You haven't really missed anything.

11. That is too funny...on DU what gay's are not welcome??? that's really news
If gay's are not welcome on DU I say the 'unwelcomers' are not DU material? since the Democratic party is the 'big tent'?

14. No, it's not a matter of anyone being unwelcome.
It's a discussion of whether it is ethical to out closeted gay homophobe politicians. In general, the gay posters see such cases of outing as self-defense, and the straights, again in general, see it as an invasion of privacy.

But, just like in the discussion of Harvey Milk High School last summer, there's a tendency by some straight posters here to want to lecture the gay ones on things like gay life, appropriate gay political strategies, and the like.

Of course, that would be about like melanin-deprived me going over to Blackplanet and pontificating on how to be authentically black, but the irony of it escapes them.

16. How many times can you say Bush sucks over and over and over and over and
...over?

That thread is so large because its a really complicated question on which opinion is very divided.

It's hard to have a 500 post thread that's based on total agreement.

1. Bush sucks!
2. Yep (nt)
3. Uh-huh!(nt)
4. You got that right (nt)
5. He really does!(nt)
6. Agreed (nt)
7. Well said! (nt)
8. Shut up Bush Rules! (nt)
---9. Drop dead freeper (nt)
10. Agreed! (nt)

And so on and so on and so on. :)

12. Since it has to do with a sexual topic
Edited on Sun Oct-12-03 05:05 PM by quinnox
These topics always get a lot of replies, for whatever reason.

My own opinion is one's sexuality isn't anyone's business, elected official or not makes no difference. I'm a strong believer in privacy rights.

13. I have not clicked on that one either...
I am not wearing my flameproof suit today.

I do find it amazing that so many would find it viable to comment, and if it hits 500; I'm goin' in!

What i find amusing, is the notion that anyone should say anything about someone that does not concern them.

I couldn't care less, and I'm sure many others feel like I do.

18. There used to be an old rule
that a thread was locked after 100 posts and a part 2 could be started. It was a good idea, I don'topen big threads they are too sloooooooow.

Didn't feel the need too for exactly the reasons you stated. I was amazed at the post count, also. It sure pushed a lot of buttons.
