Sen Roberts shut down the 60min Niger investigation
That delayed the story. But eventually, Sen. Roberts (R-KS), chairman of the senate select committee on intelligence, himself agreed to provide an interview. His only condition was that he would only speak on camera after the senate intelligence committee issued its report that summer.

That necessitated a further delay. But it also appeared to clear the way for the airing of the story mid-summer. The story was held until the senate report was released.

However, after the senate intel report appeared in early July, Roberts first equivocated and then finally withdrew his promise to provide an interview for the story.

Again, the story was held up because there was no administration official or Republican congressional figure who agreed to be interviewed. And that is where the matter stood late in the summer of 2004.

1. This is why some of us at DU have been screaming for months that Roberts
Edited on Sun Oct-30-05 05:29 PM by blm
is part of the whole WH cabal to cook the intel and to smear Wilson. Roberts planted Rove talking points into his intel report. A report that the RW media machine and GOP operatives use religiously against Wilson.

Except the charges aren't true, and only Roberts, Hatch and Bond ever signed on to that part of the report, even though the press never reports on that detail.

Fitzgerald needs to put Pat Roberts under oath.

5. Yep. Fitzgerald wanted the truth for Oct 2004, not 2005.
BushInc wanted to keep the people fooled, and the media let them get away with way too much before the election, even though most of the DC press corps already knew the truth for TWO years.

12. I called Pat Roberts late last week, his aid said...
I had been thinking and thinking, and I decided to call Pat Roberts to actually THANK him for not doing the investigation on WMD. I told whoever answered the phone, there's 2 kinds of people: People who know Bush lied about WMD intelligence, and the Bush supporters who don't yet know the truth. But we don't have to be in the dark about this, there's ways to figure out whether Bush lied or not. One way is to look at Bush's actions - either he's innocent, or not, and innocent and guilty people would behave 2 different ways:

If Bush honestly believed the intelligence, adn the intel was bad, he would want to investigate. He would want to get to the bottom of it IMMEDIATELY, once he found out there was a proplem.

If Bush lied about WMD, well, what would a liar do? Hmmm? A liar would A. Almost never bring up the fact that the intel was 'bad'. B. When asked about WMD failures, quickly change the subject or don't answer the question, and C. NEVER INVESTIGATE the WMD failures.

I told Pat Roberts aid, THANKS for doing nothing. It helps me confirm (again) that Bush lied us into Iraq.

The phone call actually got a little heated, she basically hung up on me, and i called right back, got the same person, and talked again about twice as long as the first time.

GET THIS!!! The aide on the phone was like "Well sir, it takes more than a DAY to investigate this, and Senator Roberts IS investigating it, it's just not done yet"

I was like, it's been more than a DAY, it's been TWO AND A HALF YEARS SINCE WE INVADED!! Duh.

3. Remember that there are only eight states in which Bush as
a majority of approval and Kansas is one of them. He's playing to his base.

14. Kansas is going to elect Republicans, anyway.
He doesn't have to do this to get their vote.

He's doing it because he doesn't want the truth to come out.

4. He's also the one who "determined" that the part2 of the
wmd investigation shouldn't be done and one of the two people who saw a more detailes view of the intelligence. Bush had earlier pushed through a ruling that on;y the Chairman and ranking member of the Snate Intelligence committee would be able to see soem stuff.

6. Well, now we know why the CBS fake scandle about Bush's NG
absence was created. Now we know without a doubt that it was a set-up to squash this story. Republicans are criminals. Roberts is a co-conspirator without a doubt. They will need to expand the gallows for all these traitors.

8. Amen to that.
It's so obvious, too. But media won't touch this aspect with a ten foot pole.
