Shouldn't Democrats be POUNDING?
Who forgot the Christofascist zombies in the House and Senate during Clinton's troubles DAILY DAILY DAILY telling the president to "tell the truth to the American people", "to be more forthcoming"? All because of a blow-job, no one died. Why aren't Hillary, Dean, Kennedy daily demanding that Bush and Cheney tell the truth about the outing of Valerie Plame, tell the truth to the American people about the real reasons they went to war MORE LOUDLY?

I know Kennedy has a petition out but Jeff Greenfield on CNN last night quoted a Republican this week who said "if Democrats weren't brain dead, we'd REALLY be in trouble".

1. They are pounding, at least some are.
Unfortunately the media are silent about that.

In addition, there seems to be a strategy in the Senate that is to be as silent as possible. I really wished somebody else than Reid was Minority leader at this point. It is clear that those who normally would speak have been asked not to speak too loudly.

2. "if Democrats weren't brain dead, we'd REALLY be in trouble"
Edited on Sat Oct-29-05 11:10 AM by mestup
I heard him say that! I guess it shouldn't have been a jaw-dropper, but it was shocking to hear someone on teevee actually said it.

I hope Dems were listening!

3. Well of course they should.
And perhaps they will. But if they are true to form they will not keep the issue front and center but instead will use Republican political weakness to curry favor and 'reach across the isle' and go all bipartisan (and get more gravy for their districts in the pork pile.) 13 years as the opposition party and they still haven't learned how to oppose.

13. It's not DEMS who're brain dead it's DU'ERS too full of their own bias
and self loathing to realize that right now, Democrats are and HAVE been speaking out in ONE VOICE but the Mediawhores aren't giving them airtime.

Last night for a small time, I watched a channel that featured not ONE Democrat. Every single commentator was a Republican.

So please, unless you've had your head buried, do NOT say Democrats are brain dead.

It IS the Media and you ARE repeating lies and GOP talking points.

16. Don't blame the media for every Dem mistake
Most Dems are doing it the wrong way, not brave enough, look at Barbara Boxer on Larry King last night, she was brilliant and on prime time TV, if only Hillary had the same courage and f*cking GUTS!!!

22. Oddly I never used the term 'brain dead'.
I said that if they were true to form they would not use this opportunity to actually assault the stranglehold the right has on power.

Some Democrats do seem to get it. For example almost the entire black caucus has stood as one and spoken out against the death of the republic since the outrage of the 2000 selection. Harry Reid seems to be getting it right now and is calling for Rove's head. Good for him. Teddy Kennedy seems to get it. I even have hope for Joh Kerry.

Yes the media is solidly composed of whores shilling for the fascist cabal, however they frequently find absolute idiots from the Democratic Party to support their vile crap. Frequently those idiots seem to be DLC New Democrat types, the two Joes, Hillary, etc. etc.

For example: support for the criminal war in Iraq. To this day, right now, as I type, the corporate-whore leadership wing of the Democratic Party continues to support the war, continues to claim that the only problem is management of that war, not the war itself.

I kept my mouth shut while Kerry was running for president. I kept my mouth shut and worked my ass off to get him elected. I will not keep my mouth shut any more, no matter how often I am told that it is not helpful. What is not helpful is the charade of a two party system in our charade of a representative democracy.

Oh - and I find your suggestion that my criticism of our leadership is a republican talking point both insulting and false.

4. Politicians in general are weak on corruption
Edited on Sat Oct-29-05 11:14 AM by Selatius
There are some notable exceptions in Congress today who are speaking out, but I can tell you there are far more of the kind who are corrupt, so they naturally don't wish to speak out.

It's either that, or they're nutless. They're not willing to fight and get a bloody nose. James Carville, the "Ragin' Cajun," got it right: When they're drowning, throw them anvils.

I am so sick of the tuck-nuts-and-cluck Dems that I figure they are part of the problem now.
No more. If they aren't real Democrats, I vote Indpendant, Green, write-in, anything but DINO.

10. The fact that they are not is a good thing, IMO
All of that screaming and wailing only would politicize this event. The Special Prosecutor would be unjustly accused of facilitating the Dem agenda.

What we have here is a NATIONAL SECURITY breach, an attempted subversion of the Constitution and the rule of law.

And the fact that Scooter tried to SCREW the media by blaming them, well, that didn't go over too well with the Washington press corps.

Let the press carry the water; the Democrats should display gravitas, shake their heads, and say, quietly, seriously, thoughtfully and gravely that these are VERY SIGNIFICANT ISSUES of GREAT CONCERN to the AMERICAN PEOPLE.

The high road is a good place to be right now. Save the mud for the 06 campaign ads...

23. Other than for history, this doesn't matter anymore
Most of us can ssee that there is a very substantial record that shows Bush to have been a child who with friends blew up frogs. Although there are stories that show a nicer side, the stories that show him to be a bully go far beyond the norm. At Yale, he made their newspaper for BRANDING freshman pledges. There are plenty of stories that show him to be a nasty vindictive person when his dad was President. These were not just in anti-Bush books, they were mainstream.

I agree with you we have the facts on our side - Bush clearly skirted his obligations. I actually think the press by and large know this. The creepiest thing is that knowing there were problems, they opted to investigate a real war hero's records instead.

Am I right in remembering from other posts that you are a vet? If so, I do understand why this may be even more infuriating to you - and it makes me angry - it's just I hope we focus on looking forward as people are dying.

18. And the more the Pukes pounded on Clinton, the higher his approval #'s.
Actually, I think it is smart of Democrats to sit back and let this simmer with the American people and the news media -- without giving them any reason to call this "partisan" -- because the investigation hasn't been partisan one bit.

I think Dems laying low at this point denies the RWer's a major talking point. Clinton's poll numbers went up in large part as a sympathic reaction to the Republican hysteria and hypocrisy.

19. Regardless of how this comes down, the Dems have a lot
of fuel to keep things hot for the WH. Let's say Scooter really did hear it from a reporter and passed it along (OK...I know that's not true, but pretend).

Scooter has a security agreement. He hears CIA and just passes that info along? Doesn't bother to check whether this is something that should be passed along? He's just dealing in gossip, regardless of what it is he's passing along? What kind of people do we have in this administration, holding the security of our country in their hands???? What other security issues have they just passed along to reporters as rumor? And this country feels it's safer with the Repubs in charge?

Lots of fuel there. Now the Dems just have to grab it and use it.

21. They should be demanding more investigations.
Not just into the Plame affair, but the whole phony buildup into the war; the war profiteers; the misconduct of the war; the legality of the war; the costs of the occupation; the torture of prisoners; the killing of innocents; etc, etc, etc.

But, as usual, they're too goddamned afraid of being seen as "too liberal" or not "supporting our troops" or "soft on defense".

Pathetic.

24. What support did you show
when Kerry did present a letter (getting only 10 Democrats to sign) asking for wmd, part 2 which is essentially the "whole bloody buildup", several Senators including Kennedy and Kerry have gone after the war profiteers. The torture of prisoners was even voted agains by most Republicans.
