Andrew Sullivan thinks Cheney is f*cked, and Fitz is just getting started.
"From the evidence we now have, it seems crystal clear to me that Libby knew he was out of line when he leaked the Plame name, and perjured himself to protect himself and the real source of the leak, Cheney. He gambled that the reporters wouldn't squeal; and that he could cleverly spin his phone conversations so that the information seemed to come from reporters, not him. The question now is whether he will now turn against his colleagues and master to save his own skin. This story is just beginning. Ultimately, it's about Cheney."

Don't worry, folks. Fitzie is just beginning.

1. I just read on Yahoo news that Rove
was jubilant, was "clowning around", obviously celebrating the fact that he escaped unscathed.

I wonder.

Just wait till the hearings get started. I agree with you that this whole mess has just started.

Maybe Rove should put his champagne glass down for the time being.

4. No sympathy at all for Libby, eh?
I'm sure Libby won't appreciate hearing about that. It also tells the world that all Rove cares about is himself. He's not even giving a damn about all the damage to the White House.

8. Don't have to outrun the bear. Just have to outrun you.
Rove knows that joke.

Libby doesn't, but he's about to learn it.

2. It's Cheney, Cheney, Cheney, all over, all the time.
Edited on Fri Oct-28-05 11:01 PM by Straight Shooter
Even in the best light, it's guilt by association. But everyone knows how "smart" Cheney is, Mr. Brainiac even more so than Rove. Hanging Libby out to dry will make Cheney look like a calculated and cold-hearted villain.

Cheney can't win. No one is going to believe that this was going on right under his nose without his knowledge. What, does he want the world to believe he's as dense as bush?

5. Andrew Sullivan is right.
I'm pleased to announce that I've assigned one of his essays to my students.

They have another essay to compare to it.

But the focus is that there are not two sides to every problem (false dichotomy); rather, there are many perspectives to be considered.

;-)

6. I really don't see how Cheney CAN'T end up getting in serious trouble
When the reality hits Scooter that he's going to jail for up to 30 years, the shit will hit the wall. There's no way he acted alone or without permission from and collaberation with Cheney. No one in their right mind is going to take the rap for someone else when the rap involves the rest of your life.

16. Yep
unfortunately, I think you're correct. Libby knows exactly who he's associated himself with and they don't fool around. Nothing is too evil for them.

12. Exactly. Cheney's guy did it. Cheney's responsible.
And if we had a real president, he'd own it all, too.

Even if a pres could prove these guys did this all on their own, a real president would have to own it.

14. True. The thug strategy didn't account for the reporter being jailed.
That was the pivotal fault in their strategy, and every indictment that has and that will be handed down as a result.

Thus, their cries for a federal shield for reporters.

It is sorely needed for them in order for them to continue to exploit those in the media, who aren't directly under their control as a result of corporate ownership, into advancing their propaganda.
