Brooks and Shields on PBS
Both of them said they read Fitzgerald's "body language" as saying "Rove would not be indicted." (Stephanapoulous said exactly the same thing on ABC, 20 minutes earlier; new RW talking point?)

Re. Brooks: his own 'body language' appeared to indicate physiological stress, as I could swear he was actually shuddering at certain points in his spiel ( which was, "it's really a victory 'cause only one evildoer, not five, not twenty-five,had actually been indicted" etc. etc.)A certain self consciousness springing, I sense, from a lack of conviction in what he was saying.

Anyone else read Fitz that way ( ie. the way they did)?

Re. Shields: Is it just me or does he tend to not address the questions he's asked? And he's representing the 'other' POV?

Mother.

1. If anyone wants a body language party, Bush is ripe for analysis.

Sheesh. Fitz didn't look hungover. Didn't look medicated. Didn't look stupid. I think the fact that he didn't look like * is more telling than what he supposedly did look like.

Next thing we'll be hearing about the color of his aura.

2. Well what WAS the color of his aura?
And what does this tell us about the alignment of his chakras?
And what did Fitz eat for lunch today?

don't know what they saw but this view of body language seems to be widely held amongst the talking heads.

6. I always enjoy Brooks, Shields and Lehrer.

Brooks did not look well. Very likable guy who seems to appreciate the other side of arguments. I seldom agree with him. I thought it was interesting when he mentioned how the WH had dodged a bullet - "there could have been 5 or 6 indictments and Miers could have been voted down in the Senate".

I think he is genuinely worried that the Treason word is so often in the air. And of course he works at the NY Times and life there is probably very difficult at this time because of Judy Miller.

7. I read Fitzgetrald as being very aware of scrutiny
My sense of watching him was of a very straight arrow who was very aware that every single word he said would be scrutinized and analyzed endlessly.

So he was trying very hard to keep everything focused on what he was focused on. Which tends to make one very controlled and to put up a wall of "blankness" as much as possible.

17. Thanks for the welcome
I think he knew his stuff but he seemed to have a bit of a shake in his voice. I'd be a bit nervous also with all of the lights, cameras, press and all of America watching.

21. Somehow I didn't catch the nervousness, but you are right, it was a
real pressure-cooker.

It's just so nice to see someone take questions from the press and be so genuine.

20. I heard him first on the radio
And I thought he was either 1. nervous, or 2. shaking with rage.

After watching the tape tonight, I honestly believe he was just full of adrenaline and that can make your voice sound edgy.

He acted and looked like a guy ready to grab someone by the throat and make sure everyone understood his POV.

He is a really compelling person with a compelling story, told straight out. What a refreshing change of pace!

15. Brooks looked like hell.
He looked nervous and like he was gagging on his RW talking points. He also sounded like he was an outsider and knows it. Sometimes I wonder how he manages to make a living.

16. Brooks sucked

as per usual. It was all denial and minimizing with him.

I don't know about the 'body language' thing; my impression from what was said and is in the indictment is that Fitzgerald considers Rove an annoying obstacle to the investigation more than inherently interesting in what he did.

I thought Shields answered the questions, though he didn't do it directly.

He seems to be a master at trying to keep everyone in the dark. That is a conscious skill in his game of chess.
