2. 4-engine turbo prop
Edited on Wed Jul-16-03 04:16 PM by Rick Myers
Used for all sorts of missions, primarily a cargo aircraft, but this one was an AC-130 gunship. It has 20mm cannon, 40 mm cannon and a 105mm cannon aimed out the left side for attacking ground targets.

on edit: like this one

ITs mailny a cargo/transport aircraft, however there are 'gunship' versions.

My uncle flew the Gunship Version in Vietnam, mainly interdiction runs along the Ho Chi Mihn trail (sp). I think he said he flew around 105 sorties (missions)

4. A four turbo-prop cargo plane...
mainly used for troop transport...however they put a gattling gun - cannon - in some and used them to attack Taliban forces in Afghanistan!

6. I think the typical crew is eight
Flight crew and gunners. Slow flying, in Vietnam when they landed at firebases the ground guys called them 'mortar bait.' AC-130's ARE equipped with flares to divert heat-seeking missiles.

7. Let's all get our passports ready...
Iraq is waiting for us as tourists. That will be the next disaster.
