Dear Concerned Christians for Theocracy:
Chill. Harriet Miers is not a closet liberal. I know it seems to you like she must be, because she has these disturbing things in her past. Like, oh, she brought feminists to campus, or, well, she donated to Al Gore's campaign in 1988, etc. Gentle people, please control yourselves. The truth is simpler than you make it seem, and, for you, far more pleasant.
Harriet Miers is not a liberal; she is also not a conservative. She is an opportunist. Her approach to career advancement is to attach herself to the winning side, find the most powerful man she can reach, and suck up to him like a black hole chasing a beam of light. Her 'paper trail' does not reflect an ideology; it reflects a strategy. When she thought it would help to pretend to be liberal, that's what she did. When she thought it would help to pretend to be conservative, that's what she did. Don't get your panties in a wad over what her 'real' opinions are. She doesn't have any. Her ideology is situational, and will change with the prevailing winds.
But don't despair! Obviously right now your star is on the rise, and if Miers is confirmed, she will pursue her plan of sucking up to the most powerful man in the vicinity, which will undoubtedly be one of her beloved Bush's appointees. So even though she herself is not a radical right-winger, if you put her *near* enough radical right-wingers, she will perform just as if she were one.*
So don't fret. There is no need to importune the heavens with your cries. She will do you just fine.
Sincerely,
The Plaid Adder
* Unless, of course, after a lifetime of sucking up to men with the collective IQ of a nest of wasps, Harriet finally decides once she gets to the court that now, all of a sudden, IT'S ME TIME! And then...Jesus, anything could happen, cause who the hell knows who the "real Harriet Miers" is? My guess is, not even Harriet.
