Rove/Libby/Cheney -Suddenly this seems just to easy - are we being set up?
I'm just going to throw this out for discussion.

Back before the election I kept saying that Cheney would not finish out this term. I said if Chimpy was re-elected, Dickie would then get "sick" and resign so Chimpy could have plenty of time to appoint someone who could then run as an incumbent in 2008.

Fast forward to just one year later. Chimpy's poll numbers are in the toilet, just like a bunch of us could have predicted a year ago. All of us knew that we went to war for all the wrong reasons and the neocons wouldn't be able to sustain the "popularity" of the chicken hawks forever. They can no longer claim the economy is just yummy without 9/11 to use as a crutch, the tax breaks have broken our treasury and things in general are going to hell in a hand basket. All exactly like most people who can balance a checkbook and pay attention knew would happen.

Now I don't think they thought far enough ahead to plan a scandal of this proportion but when handed lemons, make lemonade. These people aren't stupid - they knew the majority of people would finally catch on to Chimpy's stupidity. They knew it was coming but didn't care as long as they achieved they main goals for their corporate owners in the first term. Pretty much done, tax breaks for the wealthy, trashed the Constitution, packed the Supreme Court. Done. Done. Done. But...if given the chance...would like the fun to continue, go to Plan B. So much more to get done for their corporate owners.

I put forth the idea that Cheney has always been disposable. He is the perfect foil when the shit hits the fan. (Grumpy, rich and doesn't give a shit what anyone thinks.) The neocons are already hitting the airwaves on how Reagan had second term "blues" (scandals) but yet managed to "clean house" and pull out of the doldrums. According to the talking heads Reagan left office even more popular and revered than ever - even after Iraq Contra.

We all know this administration is as dirty as anything that has ever occupied the White House, we know that Bush, Cheney, Rove, Libby, et al are crooks and thieves of the highest order. So are we being played? They knew this day was coming and this is their contingency plan? Nothing would suit these guys anymore than to have an "incumbent" to run on the idea that "he" helped clean up Washington.

Talk me down.

1. easy?
It's taken 2 years and untold hell to reach this point. It's taken a man who cares more about right and wrong than politics to reach this point.

Nothing about this has been easy.

4. Well, maybe easy is the wrong word. But it has snowballed into
something major very quickly. It has gone from wondering what is going on with the special prosecutor to the attorneys for Rove, Libby, Miller, etc. have suddenly gotten a bad case of motor mouth after two years.

I'm not putting forth the idea this is what the neocons planned but since they are faced with forty different kinds of hell coming at them why not make the best of a bad situation and throw Cheney under the bus? If this comes to indictments I'm betting all we hear for the next three years is how Chimpy cleaned house (unlike Clinton) and how honest, holy and wonderful the repugs are - unlike Clinton.

2. No, I don't think we are being played
They would never do it this way. Way too bad for the image-thing. You know... bring back dignity to the White House.
Also bad for the legacy ( lol - don't laugh too loud )

:hi:

3. Here goes
I am not going to rule out that we're being set up. Sure - anything's possible. And for everyone's health, Cheney should definitely step down. BUT....

1) They don't need to set up anyone for the 2008 election. They have it in the bag already unless we get busy removing those Diebold slot machines.

2) If anyone's disposable, it's Bush, not Cheney. Cheney's way smarter than Dubya, more power-hungry and more capable.

I would say they that if anything's being maneuvered at this point, it is much more likely to be along the lines of avoiding jail and maximizing profits, and less likely to be about making Bush look good. I really think Bush is being deserted by many of his Repub friends right now, hopefully the more the merrier.

5. I hope you are right. But I, for one, never believed for a minute
that Rove, Libby or Cheney would ever really leave the White House. They might not show up in the West Wing on a daily basis but I didn't ever think Chimpy would be without his brain or Cheney would really be gone, hell, he has been acting as president from an undisclosed location for the past five year, or that Libby would just ride off into the sunset to wait for a trial.

No matter what happens those three will still be pulling strings within the White House. The neocons can't afford to leave Chimpy alone to really muck things up.

7. If indicted, tried and convicted they may not
have much choice. Hard to run a government from prison.
