Lou Dobbs,CNN-this soldier's mom thanks you...
...for your coverage of the 2000 soldiers killed in this insanity.I appreciate CNN's coverage, including film of the caskets at Dover, and the grief of the families as they are handed the flag. These are hard images for me to watch, but I am proud of them for playing them.Lou Dobbs was just as tender on his show.Thanks.

4. Lou should have been a soldier in 1964 when he turned 19 during Vietnam
But for some reason he didn't? He must have received a draft deferment and sent someone else to Vietnam in his place to do his fighting while he was busy on the campus of Harvard. Republicans are good for that. They are all very patriotic when it is not them doing the fighting.

5. Not to protect them, but this was the way it worked
According to the Selective Service...

Before Congress made improvements to the draft in 1971, a man could qualify for a student deferment if he could show he was a full-time student making satisfactory progress toward a degree.

The Lottery Draft began 12/1/69
Those born in the years from 1944 through 1950 of the ages 18-26 were elegible.

They drew 366 month & day balls randomly. September 13 was #1. Those with the numbers 195 and lower were called up. His number on his birthday would have been 195. He graduated Harvard with a business degree in economics. He would have been 24 that year so who knows.

The next drawing in 1970 was for the year 1951. That drew in more baby boom babies at tender age of 19. Most young men were just graduating from High School and not enrolled in college. Too many I knew qualified in that year. Some got deferments for health reasons including flat feet, weight, heart murmers. Does that make them draft dodgers? If they went in for the physical, NO.

Today if they voted for a draft lottery it would be different.

6. Rush Limbaugh and his anal cyst comes to mine while reading that
Hard to imagine an anal cyst being a long term medical problem that could keep old Rush from being drafted but I am no doctor. Is Rush a draft dodging Chickenhawk? I guess only he and his doctor know for sure?

Though I do agree there are valid medical reasons to request a draft deferment I knew of a lot of not so valid reasons people used very effectively too. Maybe Lou will give some detail about his own draft era days some time?
