The Appalachian Times: Indictments possible today, Condi to assume VP
Edited on Tue Oct-25-05 11:21 AM by Maddy McCall
after Cheney resignation if Cheney is indicted.

Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald, who has spent over two years investigating the leak, is close to issuing indictments in the case, perhaps as early as today.

It is very possible that several senior members of the White House will be indicted, Cheney included.

The rumor in Washington right now is that a Cheney indictment would lead to the Vice President resigning his post.

If that were to happen, it has been suggested that President Bush would select Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to assume the vice presidency.

http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/data/constitution/amendment25/

U.S. Constitution: Twenty-Fifth Amendment
Twenty-Fifth Amendment - Presidential Vacancy, Disability, and Inability

Amendment Text | Annotations
Section 1. In case of the removal of the President from office or of his death or resignation, the Vice President shall become President.

Section 2. Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.

Section 3. Whenever the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that he is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, and until he transmits to them a written declaration to the contrary, such powers and duties shall be discharged by the Vice President as Acting President.

Section 4. Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.

Thereafter, when the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that no inability exists, he shall resume the powers and duties of his office unless the Vice President and a majority of either the principle officers of the executive department or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit within four days to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office. Thereupon Congress shall decide the issue, assembling within forty-eight hours for that purpose if not in session. If the Congress within twenty-one days after receipt of the latter written declaration, or, if Congress is not in session within twenty-one days after Congress is required to assemble, determines by two-thirds vote of both Houses that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall continue to discharge the same as Acting President; otherwise, the President shall resume the powers and duties of his office.

31. He should appoint Clinton if he wants to save his presidency
I know, he can't but ~

Condi most likely will be in legal trouble herself. She had the information on Valerie Plame a month before the outing by Robert Novak. If she lied about that to the prosecutor, that's a problem.

Also, she was on AF1 when the memo was distributed for them to see. If she claimed that this was her first time to see it, she's in trouble.

I don't know why everyone assumes that Bush and Condi are off the hook in this crime. I think they were both totally involved in protecting Bush's war lies. After all, he's the one who lied directly to the people to sell this war.

And what kind of conficence would anyone have (other than a few freepers) in a president who was surrounded by plotters and liars, and knew nothing about it?

He's the ultimate abuser. He demands things from people and threatens punishment if they don't deliver. He lets everyone else do his dirty work for him, then deserts them. What a shit. I almost have more respect for Libby ~ I hate cowardly hypocrites.

on his watch and he should be accountable also. Why protect the man in charge? The nation will still go down the sewer. He should resign because of this, but we know he will not.

32. What I'd like to know
what is the 'back-side' of this group of criminals being outed from their positions. What prevents them from continuing in the corporatization of our world. Even if they end up in the slammer they have enough moola to have cell phones, fax capability, internet(s) connection to continue making decision that would be carried out by the kool aid drinkers who would be about revenge?

DUers know what Condi's all about, but the MSM will fawn all over her, and it will make a great "narrative".

She's the ultimate neocon plant, any Dem attacks on her will be met by RW shreiks of racism and sexism.
