I don't know all the legal complexities, but it seemed like a situation in which the family was in over it's head in trying to manage her money. Former Mayor Archer stepped in to assist her, because the situation had gotten very bad recently, and the apartment complex was about to evict her for unpaid rent (they backed off after the media got hold of the story). She'd been living in the very high-rent, highly secure Riverfront Towers apartments after someone broke into her house and mugged her. Coleman Young helped her get into the expensive apartment for her safety and just for the sake of helping a grand old lady out (he lived there from the time he retired until his death, and usually there are at least one or two local celebrities/hockey players living there-it's next to Joe Louis Arena). It was her family that sued the musical group for using her name, not her, because she was not competent at that time.

It's actually kind of a very sad story, from a family perspective, but a happy one from a community perspective, because the community rallied around her in her final years.
