Why's Bush doing another Iraq speech today? Kerry speech on Iraq tomorrow.
Edited on Tue Oct-25-05 10:16 AM by blm
Georgetown Univ. at 1pm.

Kerry's been gearing for this speech since he went to Iraq the first week of September to get firsthand ground information from the commanders there. At the time of his return he said that the US had only a two month window to turn Iraq around and then it would be time to start a pullout strategy.

This has also been voiced by Wes Clark and Max Cleland.

I don't think it's mere coincidence these men are on the same page.

Obviously there's no way anyone can guarantee what he's going to say, but the indicators seem to favor a doable plan that would get UN and ally support.

Hope Cspan covers it.

From WP:

>>>>>>
The White House strategy will unfold over the next several days, starting with yesterday's announcement of a new Federal Reserve Board chairman and continuing today with a presidential speech on Iraq at Bolling Air Force Base. Anticipating a barrage of criticism when the death toll hits 2,000, Bush will try to put the sacrifice in perspective by portraying the Iraq war as the best way to keep terrorists from striking the United States again, the official said. He will make the same case in another speech Friday in Norfolk.

Although Bush has made this case often, aides hope the public will be more receptive in the aftermath of the apparently successful referendum vote for a new Iraqi constitution, whose official results will be announced this week.

4. He's with a crowd of women. We know he thinks he has them snookered.
It's officers' wives. They tend to really get pushed into Bible thumping on base.

7. Just the usual only worse
His jaw was jerking, smacked his lips, slurred more than usual, and puffy eyes. He looked in fine fright form. And yes, it was pure "be fearful" and keep fighting those evil ones and especially Syria. He truly spoke the whole grueling time on the fear factor. The reason I kept watching this painful routine was to see his breakdown, no luck this time but it was definitely looking promising early on in his speech.

10. Amazing that no one in the media notes his coke jaw.
And you know damn well they all know exactly what coke jaw is.

2. I was wondering that myself. I look forward to Kerry's wisdom and words.
It is possible Bush is going to try and make it seems he his actually keeping us informed and involved in regards to this war when in fact he really is just repackaging the same old terror/terrorists junk.

5. No doubt. If only journalists would compare the two speeches, it would be
evident that the news media WAY oversold Bush as commander-in-chief while underselling ANY Democrat who puts forth a military plan.

8. What a waste of time, listening to that dirge.
Honestly, how many times can you say the same thing? It's like watching the same speech, only having the sentences rearranged...over and over again.

I found the audience's reaction extremely reserved. He gives a one sentence homage to "good" Islam, then 10 minutes to "bad" Islam. He's walking a mighty fine line and he's obviously laying the groundwork/justification to go after Syria. This guy is really pathetic...this WOT is starting to turn him into a caricature...very few are believing anything he says anymore. It's like he's going through the motions.

But, keeping talking Dimson...everytime you do, you lose another .25% of the base..

9. Heheh...that's what I've been thinking. Kinda like Arnold's ads in Cali.
The more people see him in the ad the less likely they'll vote for his measures.

Sure wish I had more info about Kerry's speech, but all I know is that he's been preparing it for at least a couple months now.

I think that his grilling of Condi was used to nail the WH on its lies and incompetence and expect him to use that in this speech on Iraq.

13. Kerry was great in his questioning of Condi.....I think you may be correct
that Kerry pressing for real answers and not settling for Condi's consistant evasion in answering the questions on policy and an exit strategy.

11. All Bush does is make campaign speeches
Since the "war on terror" (whatever that is) remains his strongest suit, all he can do is talk about that.

12. "Catapulting the Propaganda?"
Doing his 'cheerleader' thing which is what he thinks he does best?

Trying to stay busy while Plamegate unfolds?

Doing a DaddyBush "Message, I care" moment?

Only the inhabitants of the netherworld can fathom his machinations
