US Iraq toll hits 2 000
Edited on Tue Oct-25-05 09:29 AM by Generic Other
Does this mean the vigil is tonight or tomorrow night? Anyone know?

US Iraq toll hits 2,000

Baghdad - The US death toll in Iraq reportedly hit 2 000 on Tuesday amid a sharp spike in violence that killed 14 Iraqis.

The news comes as the nation awaits the results of a key vote on a charter aimed at curbing sectarian violence.

The US network CNN, quoting Pentagon sources, reported that the number of soldiers killed since the March 2003 invasion of Iraq had reached 2 000 with the deaths of two more soldiers, a toll likely to add pressure on the US administration over its role in the violence-wracked country.

1. Expect this spin, HARD:
I've heard it twice now & read it once:

"There are over 2,200 dead in Afganistan and Iraq, so we passed that number already. The "Left" is dissing the dead troops in Afghanistan."

It's f'd up. Rove is really off his game.

12. That would be 200 dead in the international war on terror
and 2000 dead in Bush's war on Iraq.

They are two distinctly different conflicts.

18. better yet, THIS is what you'll be hearing >>>>>
"the democrats are cheering the fact that 2,000 are dead... everytime another soldier dies they cheer because it helps their 'anit-war' view.... they want more and more american soldiers to die... every day the hope and pray that more american soldiers will die... this is their celebration day!"

you'll hear it on Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Bill Orielly, and Michael Savage. You can bet on it.

4. I just got the word: Vigils tomorrow at 7 PM
From the American Friends Service Committee:

"There are currently 352 events planned in 48 states and counting...

On the day after the 2,000th reported U.S. military death in Iraq, people will gather in communities across the U.S. to say that the country’s pro-peace majority wants Congress to stop the deaths by stopping the dollars that are funding the war."

7. Don't forget...
2000 means 4000-8000. You don't get counted if you die anywhere other than Iraqi soil. Airlift above Iraq? Nope. Germany? Nope. Kuwait? Nope. According to the Pentagon, it doesn't matter where you receive your injuries, just where you are when they kill you.

We hit 2000 a LONG time ago, sad as that may be. I just hope it won't take ANOTHER couple of thousand before America won't take it anymore...

10. Wow.
Just wow. I didn't realize that. Maybe I'm naieve but I really thought if you got shot in Iraq and then died four weeks later from your wounds, you still died in Iraq. A bit OT, but do those soldiers still receive the same awards/benefits/honors if they aren't Killed In Iraq?

11. This has been debunked many times.
The ICCC web site is the most accurate numbers you can find anywhere. Fatalities (as a result of injury) are recorded here.

15. The truth lies somewhere between.
The hard numbers published by ICCC are, in truth, the minimum because what is not counted are those soldiers who, traumatized by the war, come back and are killed by police while committing a crime (I've read of five, and suspect many more); the despondant wounded or not wounded vet who commits suicide months after returning - if there is no direct connection they don't count; the vets who die of accidents that would not have occurred if they had not been physically or mentally disable by the war - PTSD who overreacts on hearing a backfire and jerks his steering wheel, winding up the wrong lane on the highway.

I think ICCC does give us an accurate count, as well as they can, but they will also be lied to when it concerns black-ops casualties; and who is counting the 'contractor' casualties, when 25% of all contractors are armed 'security contractors' who run their own units and their own missions, outide the purview of the official military?

I believe the true count is at least half-again the official count, when all the above is considered.

YES, if wounded troops die outside Iraq THEY ARE COUNTED.

YES, non-combat deaths ARE COUNTED.

YES, if troops commit suicide in Iraq, THEY ARE COUNTED.

YES, if troops are murdered in Iraq, THEY ARE COUNTED.

YES, if wounded troops die in hospitals or on the runway or in the plane THEY ARE COUNTED.

YES, with 1/4 million hits /month we would have been told of at least ONE MISSING NAME; we never have been.

NO if they come home and kill themselves they are not counted in the OIF total; NO if they come home and they die in traffic accidents they are not counted in the OIF total; soldiers never have been.

YES we do try to keep track of all home-based suicides, murders, and accidental deaths from Iraq (and Afghanistan) veterans.

Thank you.

8. How Many Wounded?
Randi Rhodes stated 45,000 yesterday. I have been reading between 20-30,000 or so.

How any Iraqis dead and permanenetly injured, traumatized and their lives utterly destroyed?
