is early Christmas advertising a plot by BushCo to divert attention
away from the botched Miers nomination, the Delay trial, the Rove situation, and the various other issues that the GOP would like to sweep under the carpet right now? I saw the first Christmas advertisements up last night when I went to buy groceries, and it got me to thinking, "Hey, it's not even Halloween yet! WTF!?!?!??!!" It also has the added bonus of drawing attention to a Christian holiday, which I'm sure also played into their thinking...

take your hat off. Its just merchants moving the xmas bar backwards as they do every year. Not everything is a conspiracy, not everything is a diversion to draw attention away from criminal incompetent corrupt cronyism in washington by the crawford mafia.

now if there is a major domestic terra attack I'm with you all the way.

3. Not everything in the world is Karl Rove's planning.
That's one of the most ridiculous ideas I've ever heard. Store/company advertising, etc., is set more than six months in advance. Of course, I have no idea about your local grocery store.

6 months in advance, and plan for them accordingly?

20. They knew they'd nominate Miers, they foresaw the bungling by FEMA,
they saw a bad end to the Plame case, which was not even a blip on the radar for them six months ago?

NO.

about Dean, and they voted for others in the primary out of fear. he seems pretty omnipotent to me...

33. Yes, he is the bringer of all that is bad. I know someone who knows
someone whose cousin has a temple in their basement — they sacrifice GOP virgins (pretty easy to find if you advertise on Free Republic) to the Rove God.

5. No, for the last 10 years or more retailers started
their holiday merchandising right after the back-to-school promotions ended. Usually the lower end stores start before the higher end retailers. This year they anticipate lower than usual holiday sales, so some may be promoting more than usual to get a more sustained buying pattern.

8. I think the retailers are anxious; they know the economy
is going to hell in a handbasket and they might already be counting their holiday losses. Between this year's hurricane victims and bankruptcy filers, it's not going to be pretty. This might be the perfect opportunity to do away with all the holiday commercialism, in fact! I wish we could. I doubt whether the BFEE has anything to do with it.

9. They do seem to start earlier every year, but it's to maximize sales
Edited on Tue Oct-25-05 09:23 AM by rocknation
Some retailers rely on picking up as much as half of their annual profits during the winter holidays, and that's when the economy is GOOD. I'm not the least bit surprised if they're starting even earlier this year.

Christmas gets ealier every year regardless of who is in office. In a few years from now, Labor Day will be the beginning of the shopping season instead of the day after Thanksgiving.

22. That's also why the Apprentice is so much better than last season
Last season President Bush had nothing to worry about; but this season, he called up Trump and said "Look Trump, could you like, not suck this time around?" And Trump naturally said, "OK."

Stores get early jump on holidays
By Lance Hale
Reno Gazette-Journal
September 11th, 2000

With Labor Day in the history books, children back in school and an autumn chill in the air, retailers’ thoughts turn naturally to the Christmas holiday shopping season. With 111 days remaining before Christmas, shoppers are seeing holiday displays going up in area stores.

Where are you? Around here, Big Lots trots out the red and green while they're still selling those 99-cent grass beach mats.

I heard this morning that Consumers are expected to "spend more this year than last, even with higher fuel prices"

WTF? I'm expecting this year is going to be along the lines of "the Gift of the Magi" and they're trying to brainwash me into blowing the heat and gasoline money at Wallyworld? Maybe Capital One will send me a Platinum VISA, in the hopes that I'll have that one maxed out in a jiffy, just like the other 3...

Must be part of that "Sacrifice" Il Douche is calling us to make.

Shop until it Hurts. Consumerism is the Engine that drives the Murkan Economy.
To not surround yourself with Cheap Shit is UNPATRIOTIC!
