It's compassion fatigue, I'm sure. Strange how we almost never seem to run into Aruba fatigue or avian flu fatigue.

Pakistan rallies aid, more needed, fast

MUZAFFARABAD, Pakistan, Oct 25 (Reuters) - Pakistan and international relief agencies scrambled to deliver vital aid to remote parts of the quake-stricken country on Tuesday as a top official complained the world was not doing enough to help.

With winter approaching and rain predicted soon, relief workers were racing against time to reach countless people cut off by the deadly Oct. 8 quake and feared likely to die of hunger, cold and untended injuries unless help arrives fast.

"It must be clear to everybody that many people could die if we do not more quickly," regional World Food Programme director Amir Abdulla said on the eve of a conference of rich nations in Geneva to discuss aid to Pakistan.

"We must have more funding, much sooner, to gain as much speed as humanly possible in the face of giant logistical difficulties," he said in a statement.

It was the latest in a series of complaints of a slow world response to a relief operation experts describe as the toughest ever, worse than last year's Indian Ocean tsunami which prompted an outpouring of help.

1. "OMFG! Another distraction from Bushco!"
Brought to you by those who have difficulty thinking about more than one news story at once.

Seriously, absolutely everything that happens is either part of the VRWC or a distraction from it. Yeah.

2. Our government is not really interested in helping.
That's because there's not much potential for stealing the aid money and giving it to their cronies. Money is much better invested in Iraq, where they can divert it via no-bid contracts to Haliburton and deliver billion dollar truckloads of $100 bills to mystery people who are remembered by no one. And on and on and on.
