1. Juan's "Informed Comment" blog is no misnomer
He truly is incredibly well informed about middle east issues and is a must read every day if you want to know what is really going on in Iraq.

2. I see he's a history professor.
That just makes me smile. I worked with a history major, and I think current events are making history buffs nuts, because they see larger patterns. Not to generalize too much, but for those who know offhand how events now reflect on history, in detail with dates and places and people, it seems to be, what's the word, a living nightmare. VERY interesting to hear those folks talk, although I find myself just hoping they're wrong. Rise and fall of the Roman Empire, dark ages, all that. Thanks for sharing this and his link :) It's great of him to join us here! :)

4. The truth will set us free, and Cole has been telling it
consistently, and has been vilified by idiots who thereby destroy their own credibility, e.g. Sullivan.

12. I've been reading Juan Cole for a long time now
There is no one who matches his knowledge for depth and breadth.

He is also able to admit mistakes which for soem reason is so dang rare nowadays that it is automatically a bonus whenever I see it.

The only thing I really ever differed from him on was staying in Iraq versus leaving now. He has changed his mind on that and that I felt really legitimized my beliefs enough so that I point him out ot those who aregue for staying these days.

Juan Cole is an intellectual hero of mine for his capacity to make sense of many things regarding Iraq whilst always holding the humanity factor above or equal to the political factors.

I am proud that he peeks in on us here at DU.
