Both sought to shake up the system and force America to confront it's crimes. Both were reviled as "extremists", "communists", "traitors", and all the other epithets so beloved of the reactionary right.
Interesting how people like this get forgotten by some. They have no clue that without people like Rosa or Cindy, America would never be as great a country to live in. These two put their lives in jeopardy for all of us. Talk about sacrificing for ones country!
6. No she doesn't. Not dissing Cindy, but let Rosa be Rosa and Cindy be...
. . .there is no reason to compare the two. What Rosa did was confront racism and change society. Cindy's cause however noble is much different, and more importantly saying she walks in Rosa's footsteps does not advance her cause any more. Let Rosa's legacy stand alone and let Cindy's legacy stand alone.
As bad as the war is, I don't think you can really compare the plight of suburban white people who loose children to a war to the centuries-old subjugation of an entire race.
12. Do you dismiss Iraqi children as casually as you do American children.
While I agree that the subjugation of blacks is one of the most horrific crimes committed by this country, dismissing Cindy's fight for peace as a mere "suburban" complaint is, at best, ingenuous.
That's something I might say to someone who is making good sense generally, but I have to disagree with some detail. I meant it as a yes with reservations.
22. Maybe. In as much as they have both stood up when many
hated them for it, sure. But Parks risked her life by her actions. I doubt Cindy risked having her house bombed or being kidnapped and murdered. Parks certainly did. Her actions were in a segregated South where killing blacks was met with community silence and a wink and a nod. But both are heroes to me.
while I respect Cindy for standing up for this illegal war, Rosa Parks stood against stakes that were much different. She lost her job and risked losing her life by going against a very bigoted law. She faced hatred against her race. Even though Cindy has faced scarey moments, she isn't discriminated for her race.
I'd hoped that we'd go at least 24 hours after her death without one of these RosaParksier-than-thou nonsense discussions. I guess that was wishful thinking.
