New RW spin: this will turn leaks into crimes
Such indictments could set a precedent that will turn "leaks into crimes," Mr. Lowell said.

"It can be very chilling to the media, and journalists and the American population ought to pay close attention if this statute is invoked for this set of conduct," he said.

"There's no doubt government officials should not release information that they shouldn't, that deals with national security. That's a given. The problem is, we live in a country in which virtually everything is put into the category of national security information," he said.

There is a "vast array of laws that will now make it potentially a crime for people to leak information that should have never been in the national security domain to speak to," Mr. Lowell said.

2. Oh, puh-leeze.
Perhaps they should consider that Cheney had no right to leak Valerie Plame's identity to Scooter, who should have kept his own mouth shut right then and there. But nooo, everyone jumped on the treason-go-round for their happy ride.

As for virtually everything being in the category of national security, just exactly who started that sh*t, anyway? Has Lowell forgotten? I sure remember who decided to hide everything behind the curtain of so-called national security.

3. Well,
Edited on Mon Oct-24-05 08:54 PM by the_spectator
they can say it was "just lying about leaking" as we said it was "just lying about sex."

Happily, the vast majority of Americans have had sex. Very few people have worked jobs that can lead to leaking to the press. What if YOU called the New York Times to tell the something you learned at the office? You probably couldn't get past voicemail!

And so I have hope!
