Good night and Good Luck
so we went to watch the movie last night... no will not give you any spoilers, just say... this is probably one of the most important movies made in the recent past... up there with F 911 in his irreverent and very serious treatment of the issues at hand.

Oh and yes the mixing of Black and White with the original movies is extremely well done.

And it should get you thinking of the parallels between today and that time, in fact I have a new avenue of research for the ever so popular US un patriot act, one particular section of what was passed at the time sounds like the same crap passed by the same type of folks

Oh and the techniques used by the senator will be ever so familiar to all of you who have watched even ten seconds of Fox or listened to Rush for more than ten seconds.

Oh and moombats of the world unite (if you have been called one you know what I mean), for they are truly scared of us moonbats.

:-)

Oh and remember treason is the reason for the Fitzmas season, just as it was in the 1950s

And finally, as they said in National Treasure, nobody speaks like that anymore.

1. I think it will rule at the Oscars.
A film like this has been way past due, and I thank Clooney for his vision.

10. Of cousre we do
true story a rightie called me one thinking it was an insult, in public no less. So I quietly looked him un the eye and took him down the origin of the world, gonig back to the very much southern racial slurr.

Then I again met his eyes, batted my eye lashes and told him, and yuo know what, I am a moombat and proud of it.

He just stood there... frozen, not knowing what to do... t'was funny.

4. We went to an artsy theater in San Diego
Edited on Mon Oct-24-05 01:43 PM by nadinbrzezinski
not any of the major chains

Do you have a Landmark theater near by?

Oh and I did a hollywood.com saarch for teh movie upwards of 30 miles... only two theaters in this town, one in an area that is an adventure after dark, and not because of the theater either.

8. Do so. As i said we had to do a wide search and
none of the major chains were carrying it, will not go major chains unless many of us go watch it, on limited release... the problem with these movies... small indies, will be getting the DVD that is for sure... when my nephews are old enough they will have to watch it

21. Received rounds of applause when we saw it on Friday...
in Redmond, WA. The theater was eerily quiet during Murrow's speech. No slurping or popcorn chomping. It was surreal to me. The audience applauded at the speech's conclusion as well as at the end of the movie.

Very good stuff. Now, if we could all have walked out of the movie and actually got off our ass, turned off the tv and did something.. it would have been even better.

16. Beyond any political judgments, it's also extraordinary filmmaking
The writing, acting, directing and design is incredible.

It's a truly revolutionary bit of filmmaking, especially in these days of quick cutting and ostentatious angles. The pace is very slow, which is in itself a bold choice, but Clooney is a truly steady and confident director. The use of master shots with rack focusing and perfectly timed pans, tilts, widening and select inserts (like the taps on the leg) show that the eye and mind, when engaged, will follow.

Period depiction is well done, the casting is superb with flawless acting throughout, and the nuances of the various characters are at play throughout. Made with the constraints of a very tight budget, the filmmakers used all resources to their greatest advantage; you'll even see most of the administrative staff as extras.

Even if this subject isn't one that matters to one--as it should to anyone with any heart--it's simply great filmmaking; it's fluid and sensitive information flow, holding true to the hearts of those who rode this to its end.

More than anything else, it kept a sentient balance to the interplay of the actions of individuals.

Frank Langella as Bill Paley got in one of the best zingers of the picture, and it is a moment of anchoring reality to the hysteria and common assumptions of partisans that shows the inherent decency of the filmmakers, especially the writers Grant Heslov and George Clooney.

This is an extraordinary endeavor, and I hope you all enjoy it.

17. The brilliance of those leg-tap scenes....
Did you notice that in later scenes, you no longer SEE Friendly tap Murrow on the leg, you only hear it? Nicely done.

I think my favorite shot of the film is the long shot through the lobby of Black Rock where you see the security guard from behind, watching Murrow's first piece on McCarthy on the lobby monitor.

unnecessary moment in it.
