1. I hear Judith Miller is looking for a gig.
Friend of the administration, uniquely unqualified for the job--yep, she's a shoe-in.

19. I heard Andy wanted to be Treasury Secretary, not FED CHAIR
Fed Chair involves WORK...treasury secretary just involves having a nice signature to go on the dollar bills, and making decisions about what pretty colors to put in the currency. They also run the IRS, and do the banking, pay the bills, print the money and the postage, but they are not the ones setting monetary policy.

They say Andy is totally burnt out, and the Treasury job is a soft landing, relatively speaking. Fed Chair would be brutal with the mess we are in, and he does not have the background for it. Of course, that never stopped the Monkey before....

The Department of the Treasury is organized into two major components the Departmental offices and the operating bureaus. The Departmental Offices are primarily responsible for the formulation of policy and management of the Department as a whole, while the operating bureaus carry out the specific operations assigned to the Department. Our bureaus make up 98% of the Treasury work force. The basic functions of the Department of the Treasury include:

Managing Federal finances;
Collecting taxes, duties and monies paid to and due to the U.S. and paying all bills of the U.S.;
Producing postage stamps, currency and coinage;
Managing Government accounts and the public debt;
Supervising national banks and thrift institutions;
Advising on domestic and international financial, monetary, economic, trade and tax policy;
Enforcing Federal finance and tax laws;
Investigating and prosecuting tax evaders, counterfeiters, and forgers.

10. Why is he rolling this name out today?
Seems awful early in the week...usually, they wait till nearer the weekend, so that it leads on the Sunday shows. Are they trying to eat up air time in the news cycle? Hoping that between hurricanes and Fed Chairs, no one will mention PlameGate???

I didn't see any mention of it on the morning news today. It was all hurricane, Plamegate, and Miers.

That it will be J Harold Tutweiler, the ex-Chief Accountant for Arbusto Oil Company. J Harold is a long-time friend of GW’s and was cleared of all counts in the indictments following the financial collapse of Arbusto.

32. Ben Bernanke is what the street is saying
Of course, one crony is as good as another, or should I say as BAD as another...

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20051024.wfedchairman1024/BNStory/Business/

Reuters news agency, citing “knowledgeable sources,” said former Fed governor Ben Bernanke would be the nominee. The Wall Street Journal said the same. Mr. Bernanke has been mentioned in the past as the likely front-runner.

Also on the list of candidates for the job are several leading economists, presidential advisers and a handful of current or former Fed governors. They include: Harvard University Professor Martin Feldstein, Columbia University business school dean Glenn Hubbard, Fed governor and Greenspan apprentice Donald Kohn, former White House economic adviser Lawrence Lindsey and Fed vice-chairman Roger Ferguson.

Other potential candidates include Robert McTeer, former president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, William Poole, president of the St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank, and former U.S. Treasury undersecretary David Mulford.

25. I am going with the lawyer of
the Nigerian general who was executed, the one who wants to give me a whole lot of money if I just send him my check routing number or something.

But if that guy is busy, I hear George will just send away for one those economic empowerment tapes ( earn a gazillion dollars at home by licking envelopes) and do the job himself.
