Did anybody see Freeh on Jon Stewart the other night?

I just saw a tape of it and my blood ran cold when Freeh, in response to the Soviet threat being gone said that there are 37 (or so) countries with spies trying to get our corporate secrets. Specifically he mentioned Pharma, and that we didn't want other countries making drugs on the cheap..

So the FBI is protecting corporate profits, not our people. I am disgusted, but it only proves what the US government is up to and who they answer to.

I just read an article where a Senator Fitzgerald (no relation to the Fitz) called up Louis Freeh and asked him who he thought was the best asst. US atty in the country and Freeh told him Patrick Fitzgerald. :scared:

6. Um - when the Soviets fell - the CIA looked around for new enemies

and saw them in people who stole American intellectual property. I'd rather have them doing that than invading Iraq. Though when you think about it - letting Africa copy drugs will save millions of lives.

I am sorry. I've changed my mind. Go back to Iraq. Actually I am slightly kidding - though my point about the CIA being all about intellectual property and corporate crime was true during Clinton's years - and they didn't seem so bad. I guess neocons are the more of two evils.

It just bothered me that that seemed to be his charge. Then again busting 16 year old kids for pot isn't yo great either. Where's Al Capone when you need him?

8. I'd certainly like to see poorer coutries get together and buy in bulk.

I think they do that. What gets me is when an american bio-rice company tries to patent basmati (which has been used for free by people for thousands of years). Or try and come up with a "new rice" which people will have to buy every year because it does not "make seeds" for the next year.

Indian activists fought both these. But it is pretty creepy when corporations spend much on coming up with ways to charge people for what was free. Or if they come up with drugs (on issues that have already been solved). All the while the "super-bugs" morph (sometimes due to new antibiotics being fed to farm animals so they can live in packed into a factory without dying - instead of on a farm).

I really think that with "monopolies given to drug companies" that the illnesses that really need solving should be given the greater monopoly - and issues that have been solved be given a lesser monopoly (ie - fewer years).

I don't see what else can be done!
