World Can't Wait/November 2nd - any info? thoughts?
I heard about the World Can't Wait campaign on Air America yesterday and went to their website to find out more (worldcantwait.org).
I don't know much about the group and wanted to see if any DU'ers were more knowledgable about them.
I'm obviously supportive of their goal - but I'm wondering about the November 2nd no work/no school initiative. How many people can really take off a whole day from work or school and if we can't does that dilute the situation? I'm not talking about people who just don't feel like it or can't be bothered - I'm talking about people who don't have sick time or vacation time and need the money. I work on commission too, so I'm really losing when I'm not at work. If a lot of us just can't do it, then we give the right the opportunity to laugh and point out that they "threw a party and no one came."
I'd love to hear others thoughts and comments on this. Thanks!
Unfortunately, I don't have the kind of job where I can just take a day off when I feel like it. I'm a paralegal working for a scatter-brained attorney who kinda falls apart when I'm not here to hold his hand. Besides, me taking off work that day isn't really going to do much for the "cause". I work for a small law office...what difference will it make?
I support the idea but I just can't do the whole "no school/no work" thing.
