Bono says Bush is the one who better be afraid. He WILL be held accountable

Bono meets Bush; leaders 'should be afraid'

<snip>Bono told Rolling Stone magazine in an interview before they dined that he had no fear of meeting Bush or any other world leader.

''They should be afraid, because they will be held accountable for what happened on their watch,'' Bono told the magazine for an article on newsstands Friday. ''I'm representing the poorest and the most vulnerable people. On a spiritual level, I have that with me. I'm throwing a punch, and the fist belongs to people who can't be in the room, whose rage, whose anger, whose hurt I represent.

'How dare you!'

Bono said he is ''capable of having a row'' if he doesn't get what he wants. He said he once criticized Bush for not getting the Millennium Challenge money out quick enough and was rebuked for it.

''One senator threw a newspaper at me in a meeting. 'How dare you disrespect the president of the United States!''' Bono told the magazine.

Bono said he doesn't support any president from the left or the right, but he has a hard time criticizing Bush after he has sent the money to Africa. He said he's made clear he doesn't support the war in Iraq but doesn't campaign against it because his main priority is helping the poor.

he can do constructive things and simply say "no comment" regarding the other atrocities, rather than say something assinine like "he has a hard time criticizing Bush after he has sent the money to Africa"

18. I'm sure he doesn't want to bite the hand that feeds his cause.
Cozying up to the President, no matter who it is, is a good way to get lots of money for his projects. Since he's not getting involved in US domestic politics, I don't blame him.

If his only angle is to get money sent to Africa, then at least he's doing a much better service than many celebrities.

14. Bono is another egomaniac........
that thinks the world should turn on his whims, just like bush. Granted, he's done some good work for the poor but so much more remains to be done. Not holding anyone's feet to the fire "from the left or the right" on something like an immoral and illegal war on Islam is just plain stupid.
Bono is not one of my favorite people, as if that's not quite apparent.

17. Yeah, $15 million.
bush throws more than that at Halliburton every day. If he couldn't get pissed about that slap in the face of poverty he isn't capable of getting pissed at all. Dick! :puke:

money for Africa. I believe I read that BushCo. has so draped the legislation with conditions to please his American Taliban base that the money has yet to materialize in any quantity close to the much quoted 15 Billion. In short, it would not surprise me in the least if BushCo. never meant what they promised three frickin' years ago. I think he truly cares about people, but it may be that he hasn't figured out that a man who lies about war and has the blood of untold thousands on his hands wouldn't think twice about promising 15 billion to an Irish rock star.

10. Bushco always reneges on promises
unless they get something that THEY want out of it.

I am sad and concerned for Africans in need but first and foremost, I think KATRINA victims need our help.

Does Bono give a shit about starving Americans?

13. Bono is a still naive.
He thinks that he can get the Silverspoon Sociopath to keep his promise.
W has done this type of thing many times. He talks about funding projects, does a photo op and never delivers the funds.

20. Africa hasn't seen a dime of it yet.........
and probably never will.

With a determined push, last month the president won congressional approval to provide $15 billion in new AIDS prevention and treatment efforts over the next five years. People as varied as Irish rock star Bono, traditional relief advocates and evangelical Christian ministers gave the package well-deserved praise.

The bill signed by the president authorized an emergency plan for AIDS relief, but it contained no money. The money must come from Congress, which must appropriate the cash.

So far it doesn't look encouraging.

The Washington Post reported that a House subcommittee and the Senate both plan to spend considerably less than Bush requested for current foreign aid programs, the new AIDS effort and the Millennium Challenge Account (a plan to help reforming Africa nations). Rep. Jim Kolbe, R-Ariz., said the White House hasn't done enough to organize the new programs for Africa -- an argument with merit.

Bono might want to consider getting a little more testy with bush.

Instead of just talking the talk, like some people. He goes and does something. People like Green Day just whine and make albums.

Yes, those lousy whiners and their huge, screaming, anti-war anthems. Why don't they walk the walk and raise money for poverty with their music? (Oh, wait...they do.)
