What happens if O'Connor's husband dies?
and she chooses to stay on the court before * nominates/confirms a replacement?

Its not like she signed a written contract with Bush to leave the SCOTUS by a certain date.

1. She'd have to quit her new job
has chancellor of William and Mary College. So much for retiring to take care of her husband?

2. Maybe Chancelloring is only a part-time gig
... leaving her lots of free time to 'be with her family'.

:sarcasm:

3. I wish no grief upon Justice O'Connor, but I DO wish she would postpone...
... her retirement until 2009.

4. I'd say
the odds of that are low since she was vocally cheerful over the 2000 Bush theft because she refuses to retire under a scenario when she might be replaced by a Democrat. If she withdraws her retirement now, she'll still most likely retire before 2008 just to insure that her replacement is a Chimpy appointment.

6. I agree... was just expressing wishful thinking.
I'd simply like to see her serve as a placeholder until we have a legitimate, Democratic (and sane) president again... *sigh*

7. What I never got...
was if it was so important to her, why she didn't bail in his first term?

5. Don't think she'd stay because I think she is just
sick of it and wanted out.
