Four Fox shows named worst for families
Edited on Wed Oct-19-05 03:45 PM by onenote
According to the Parents Television Council. Now I personally think the PTC and their presiden, Brent Bozell, are morons. But I love the fact that they've singled out Fox as family unfriendly....

4 Fox shows named worst for families

NEW YORK (AP) -- Four Fox network programs, led by the comedies "The War at Home," "The Family Guy" and "American Dad," topped a parents group's annual listing of the worst prime-time shows for family viewing.
<SNIP>
The group's president, L. Brent Bozell, said he was alarmed that the three Fox Sunday night comedies are being marketed as family friendly.

(The O.C. was the fourth Fox program on the list).

3. When have those shows ever been marketed as family-friendly?
Just because they feature a family or have the word "family" in the title doesn't make them family-friendly, Mr. Bozell.

Also, Jeanie was not really a genie.

4. Uhm... they are NOT being marketed as "family friendly."
In fact, they have the content warning labels before each show, in the previews, and sometimes after commercials in the middle of the show.

Those guys are idiots.

They should re-focus their energies on what really matters-- showing the world how gay Spongebob is!

17. Especially with O'Lielly
hawking a book to children... as if they need the brainwashing like they need to brush their teeth or eat their vegetables.

He's the one marketing evil to children, go after him.

10. When I was younger
My dad and I used to gather around the TV and watch Family Guy. This is when I was still in high school, but I am 21 now and we still like watching it together.

The people who run this organization are probably fundies.

8. That's one thing that has always puzzled me about Faux.
They preach the RW garbage, they are outright propagandists for the fundie RW, yet their shows, almost without exception are orgies of violence and T&A. A very disturbing contadiction in what they present. But then again, this is Faux, they don't have to make sense.

15. Faux works well to cover all bases.
RW shilling pays off and so does playing the T&A/violence card to the masses.

That said, I love the Family Guy and the Simpsons. They are pretty good caricatures of American life.

12. And then on F/X (which is a Fox station), we have "Nip/Tuck"...
A GREAT SHOW! But not for the whole family.

23. Denis Leary's "Rescue Me" ...
...is great; again, it is not for "family" (child) viewing. These people need to understand that parents have the responsibility of monitoring what their children watch and deciding what they feel is appropriate for their children.

18. They used to say that about the Simpsons
Now, theologians cite the Simpsons as having a very strong moral compass, perhaps more so than most other shows on that there TeeVee. Of course, if you oblivious to sarcasm, absurdity, and trashing of sacred and flawed cows you won't find the gems in shows like Simpsons, Family Guy and even American Dad.

FOX shoudl be taken off the air. The only good channels are CNN & MSNBC. Everything else is worthless.

20. Yes, they ARE being marketed as family friendly
by sheer dint of airing them early in the evening.

Warnings? Ha. There are warnings on cigarette packs, they don't have any impact. Anyway, as the music industry has learned, a warning just makes the product more enticing.

Kids love cartoons. Family Guy and American Dad are cartoons. They are fine on Adult Swim but they are not appropriate for preteens. At least really young kids don't get the jokes.

For the record, I love Adult Swim.

The War at Home is being mis-marketed as a comedy. It is not a comedy. It is a piece of shit. They think they're recreating Married With Children but unfortunately they're doing it with writers and cast who are untouched by talent.

For the record, I love Married With Children.

24. I hate the PTC
They have previously cited "Everwood" was being amongst the worst because of abortion and teenage sex storylines. Meanwhile, it is one of the best shows on TV for families and realistically portrays the relationships and struggles of the core families on the show.

25. They're also flip-floppers.
I checked out their site archives. One week, they had Bernie Mac's show as the family-friendly highlight of the week. The next week, guess which show was the worst offender? Yep, Bernie Mac.
