America Girl is a subsidiary of Mattel (blue Co.). Because of their affiliation with Girls Inc. American Family Association (pro-life/anti-gay)has called for a boycott of American Girl Products. Buy your daughters, nieces, granddaughters, American Girl products to show your support. Don't let these RW fanatics win this one. Sorry if this has already been posted. Ran a search and didn't come up with anything.

American Girl has now teamed up with Girls Inc., specifically promoting three programs through donations from the sales of a colorful, “I can!” bracelet: Operation Smart, Discover Leadership, and Sporting Chance are three Girls Inc. programs developed specifically for building science, math and technology skills; developing leadership and community awareness skills; and encouraging athletic, cooperative and competitive spirit skills, as well as an interest in sports participation, respectively. How can you not like these programs?

The broader mission of Girls Inc. is best summarized within a letter from Joyce M. Roché, President and CEO of Girls Incorporated. It’s entitled, To all friends of strong, smart, and bold girls (Oct. 15, 2005):

In response, the American Family Association is trashing the dolls that they have always loved up to now. They’re condemning the beneficial programs because Girls Inc. supports tolerance for homosexuality and a pro-choice stance, as well as all the other possible life experiences and choices that girls as a group will certainly face.

What exactly are we supporting by buying these dolls? I would prefer to know what I am supporting. Also, why all the detail on Girls Inc? I don't understand. I thought Mattel owned the American Girls. Are these right-wing nuts upset because they purchased something for years that now prescribes to an agenda? Is American Girl adding an agenda? Why don't they just stick to selling dolls?

Personally, I want my child "broadened" with adult knowledge. I think the 7-8-9 year girl can handle information with adult agenda. Or perhaps, we let our kids play with dolls and keep the agenda of progressive "smarty" people out of their lives.

Face the facts. If a boycott works, their agenda will only show that the majority don't like their progressive thinking. They will cave for fear of losing money. They are rich by the way. Shouldn't we hate them too?

4. I do support them. Their dolls/stories are mainstays in my home.

We are going to the American Girl Cafe in NYC the day before Thanksgiving to celebrate my niece's birthday. The newest doll has the same name as my youngest.

My daughters love reading these stories and playing with these dolls.
