How Bush will ditch Harriet - unpaid
fines on various Texas properties forcing liens and having to recuse herself from some votes on City Council due to her financial neglicence.

This "surprise" - (only surprise is that someone found out) - will be the reason for her "withdrawal".

1. Yep. That's a nomination-killer.
The year Harriet Miers began work as a senior presidential aide in the White House, the city of Dallas slapped three liens in three months on a property she controls in a low-income minority Dallas neighborhood, records show.

The city placed the liens in 2001 to force her to reimburse it for clearing the vacant lot of tall grass, weeds and debris after Miers failed to have the work done herself, as required by city law, and after she did not respond to city notices to maintain the property.

It was not the first time the city had to take action. Records show that since Miers assumed power of attorney for her ailing mother in 1995, the city has issued seven other liens on vacant lots that Miers controls in the same neighborhood around Tipton Park.

All 10 liens, totaling less than $2,000, have been paid, a city spokesman said.

But the failure of Miers, a former Dallas City Council member, to comply with city law, and her slow response in reimbursing the city, run counter to her image as a meticulous, detail-oriented attorney who is always well prepared.

Harriet, we hardly knew ye.

2. He HAD to know about that
It would have come out during her rather extensive WH security clearance process. It was actually her daddy's slumlord property, she was just the agent for her mother, and she mismanaged the property by failing to keep it up.

4. Be sure to read this thread about how Harriet failed to pay her
bar association dues, and was briefly suspended from practicing law:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=102&topic_id=1858459&mesg_id=1858459

"Earlier this year, I received notice that my dues for the District of Columbia Bar were delinquent and as a result my ability to practice law in D.C. had been suspended," Miers said in submitting written responses to a broad-ranging questionnaire from the Senate Judiciary Committee.

"I immediately sent the dues in to remedy the delinquency," wrote Miers, President George W. Bush's White House counsel. "The nonpayment was not intentioned, and I corrected the situation upon receiving the letter."

Oops... she just forgot. Seems like a distinct pattern of behaviour to me. IMHO.

5. I think she's a sacrifice "bunt!"
Only the real runner to score is coming up behind her instead of on base in front of her. We need to keep our congress critters accountable to whoever they might put up next. It should not change A THING as to what sort of candidate they should accept and what they should fillibuster.

9. The dems are sitting back and eating popcorn, watching....
the republican divide increase. They don't have to say anything right now, and they are wise not to.

10. That won't amount to anything.
The RWs will be able to dismiss that easily. They will laugh and say, "That's all you got? She didn't get the yard mowed a few times?" And then they will spin the objection as being a petty partisan objection. And to Joe Public, it will look like she just didn't get around to getting the yard cut.

It is going to take something stronger than that. Remember, we don't even have to votes to filibuster.

She will be confirmed.
