I'm concerned about the Supreme Court.
Here are the political positions and ages of the Supreme Court Justices, as well as when they were appointed and by which President.

John Paul Stevens - Appointed by Ford in 1975; Liberal; 83

William Rehnquist - Appointed Associate Justice by Nixon in 1970; Appointed Chief Justice by Reagan in 1987; Conservative; 80

Sandra Day O'Connor - Appointed by Reagan in 1981; centrist; 73

Ruth Bader Ginsburg - Appointed by Clinton; Liberal; 70

Anthony Kennedy - Appointed by Reagan in 1988; Conservative; 67

Antonin Scalia - Appointed by Reagan in 1987; Conservative; 67

Stephen Breyer - Appointed by Clinton in 1994; Liberal; 65

David Souter - Appointed by Bush, Sr., in 1990; Liberal; 64

Clarence Thomas - Appointed by Bush, Sr., in 1991; Conservative; 55

I'm concerned by the fact that Stevens, considered the most liberal justice, is the oldest of the Justices. If he wants to be replaced by another liberal, he will have to wait until he's 85. And that's assuming a Democrat wins in 2004. Otherwise, he’d have to wait until age 89, or even later, to retire. I worry that he might not live for five and a half years.

Also, William Rehnquist turns 80 this year.

Here are the ages of some justices who have died in recent years:

William Brennan – 1997 – 91
Harry Blackmun – 1999 – 91
Lewis Powell – 1998 – 91
Warren Burger – 1995 – 88
Byron White – 2002 – 85
Thurgood Marshall – 1993 – 85
Abe Fortas – 1982 – 72

Another reason to vote Democratic in 2004!

2. Also note..
Stevens' wife has been begging him for some time to step-down. He's really not in too good health, but he's holding-out for a Demo president. If things get much worse, I wonder if a Dem senate will do?

3. I believe that there have been times when there

have been fewer that 9 justices on the SCOTUS.

If the Dems have any balls then they can block any * appointed Scalia types.

4. I don't believe the anti-filibuster bill passed the senate so I doubt

we need worry unless Bush* gets elected or manages to steal the office another time. I believe when it comes to Supreme court the Democrats will Unite. ~~Fingers Crossed in hopes they will anyway. We can put Bush* off for the election cycle anyway no matter how hard Robertson prays for them to die.

5. Welcome to the club.
Who isn't concerned? Roe v. Wade is soon to be history, I fear. And that's just the beginning.
